Dead Rising 4 is total garbage and they removed everything that made Dead Rising Dead Rising. It's no wonder since they never listened to the actual fans of the game. Sad for the people who lost their jobs though.

4 was my favorite, no full coop sucked ass though

Why was it your favorite?

I hate time mechanics in games, I played through the campaign twice and just had fun and didn't feel an artificial time crunch to do the things I wanted to. The control system was better, easier to heal and jump between weapon types, I hated Frank in 1 and OTR and actually found him funny in this one. Again I absolutely hated DR1, disliked 2, loved 3, and loved 4. The only real negative for me with 4 was the lack of campaign co-op.

And you're one of the few people who enjoyed that. To people who loved the series a franchise that used to be like nothing else was now incredibly bland, and to most people who already didn't like Dead Rising there was nothing about it that made it stand out from other games. In trying to broaden the appeal of the series they made something that appealed to basically no one. You're certainly within your right to like the game but Capcom should have just accepted that not every game has to be for every person, and made something on an appropriate budget for the people who wanted that time-management survival horror game. There's plenty of games out there for people who just want to mow down hoards of enemies. There's nothing else out there for people who want Dead Rising.

@cheesus: eh, it seems more to me like him trying to clarify he really did enjoy the game looking back, and just experienced it in a sub-optimal way.

With Alex just dropping major story spoilers for Yakuza 1 at the beginning of the video, I guess it's pretty safe to say there won't be any more Beast in the East :(

Eh, there's always the chance it returns as a feature where Alex has played the games and guides them along while Dan and Vinny blindly experience the story. But yeah, I don't really have much hope at this point for the feature to return unfortunately.

Hope Alex at least finishes this one on his own time because Yakuza 2 is one of my absolute favorite games ever, and was my favorite in the series until 0 came along. Kiwami 2 has a few changes I don't care for but you're getting 90% of what I loved, and I'm happy for even that much to be intact.

Sad the duders didn't like this one, but I can't fault their reasoning. I think the combination of DBZA's redo and the fan-film "The Fall of Man" conflated to make me remember this more fondly.

There wasn't really anything about fighting for the right cause in Gohan's speeches in Japanese, it was just some generic "get angry" stuff.

Gohan doesn't really imply his own death in Japanese when fighting the Androids, I guess the dub writers felt like they needed to build up the moment more. Not necessarily a bad move on their part given how random Gohan's death feels here but maybe that was the point.

The pre-Kai dub scripts are the #1 reason I question how recently people suggesting Dan and Jeff watch the full dubs have actually seen them. They're some of the best ways to see cultural differences writ large. You get Gohan talking about "another will take my place, evil will never triumph!" alongside Goku's "I am the hope of the universe" speech to Freeza because the people in charge assumed children were too stupid to root for a character who isn't a perfect paragon of virtue.

This is why the Bardock movie is so interesting: Bardock is an irredeemable asshole. A mass murderer on a global scale, yet EVEN the Japanese releases subsequently have desperately tried to make him a good guy so they can slap his gold-haired, Rambo-looking face on another million products.

It at least fits future post-apocalypse Gohan a lot better than it ever did Goku. My biggest problem with the old dub was just how much they cram dialogue into scenes that original had none, any time you see a shot of a character's back or a panning shot before their mouth is on screen they'll shove in some made up dialogue because they thought kids' attention spans wouldn't allow for even seconds of silence.

Wow this thing was not nearly as good as I remembered it being back when I was 16. I rewatched it again in Japanese, but even with good voice acting it's still just a whole lot of stuff you already knew. A couple things I thought worth mentioning that based on your discussion it seems like might have been cut/changes in of the dub:

At the start when Roshi wants to go fight, Oolong says "Vegeta, Piccolo, and even Yamcha couldn't stop the Androids" which is a very strange way to order them. I assume there would have been a ten minute discussion of this line if it was still in the dub.

When we briefly see Chichi and the Ox King he says half the world's population has been killed at this point, so it seems like the Androids are really just taking their time with this.

There wasn't really anything about fighting for the right cause in Gohan's speeches in Japanese, it was just some generic "get angry" stuff.

Briefs isn't actually their last name in Japanese. Brief/Briefs is the first name of Dr. Briefs, but because in English we're used to Doctors being names Doctor [Last Name] the dub writers assumed it was a family name. The only characters to actually have last names in Japanese are the Son family. (Goku's family)

One last note about the music, back in the day FUNimation used a bunch of licensed music for their dubs of the movies and TV specials, and only nowadays can you watch them with the original Japanese BGM. There should be a different audio track even on the Blu-rays that gives you the option to watch with the old licensed soundtrack, it just defaults to dub with JP music. Also given how bad you found the early 2000s dubbing in this, maybe give the Japanese a shot if you ever watch the Bardock special...?

Man, hearing them come across the way Dragonball used to look and sound in English is kinda weird. It was actually kinda bad. Toei cleaned up the animation for Kai a whole hell of a lot and Funimation's dubbing skills have become much better.

Does anyone know which dub this was? I assume they watched the Funimation dub, but is it possible they saw the Ocean dub? Did Ocean even dub this movie? Either way, it seems like a hell of a jump in quality for Funimation to go from early Dragonball Z to the quality of something like the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime.

Ocean never dubbed either of the TV specials or any of the movies past the original three (back when they were still handling the voice over recording for FUNimation), the post Namek Ocean dub was made purely for broadcast in Canada and sometimes the UK, any VHSes or DVDs released in Canada still had the FUNimation dub, and thus none of the later movies or specials were dubbed with that cast.

This game came out when I took a long hiatus from games, so I had no idea how fucking awesome it was. Is there an easy way to play it without owning any console besides my PS4? I've already checked and it Isn't on PSNow.

Only options are PS2, PS3 or emulate it unfortunately. God Hand deserves to be rereleased on every platform the way Resident Evil 4 is.

As someone who's played this game to completion before I'm 100% with Dan that the level design in this game is largely tedium. The actual mechanics of the stealth are fantastic, but that doesn't matter when you're doing cardboard box conveyor belts and trying to track down specific randomly selected pillars to place C4 on.
