You should probably play Portal 2 at some point. 0

Though it is not known, I actually have most of a review for the Orange Box. I played through all of Portal, Half-Life 2 and some of Episode 1. I never had any intention to play Team Fortress 2 of course but I do have it hear, mostly finished but not complete enough to share. Needless to say it got really long. So when Valve decided to follow up the huge success of Portal with a standalone sequel, I finally have to chance to praise the game on its own. For those who aren’t familiar with what Por...

    Portal 2 PS3 Review - a Guide in Gaming Excellence. 0

Valve has an unfortunate disorder of not being able to release a game with 3 at the end of it, whether it be Team Fortress 3, Half Life 2: Episode 3 or even just Half Life 3. While this has angered some gamers, it makes more sense to try and enjoy its benefits which just so happen come in the form of Portal 2.You pick up where you left off from in the original, taking control of Chell and trying to escape the facility run by Glados, a maniacal computer that treats science as a drug habit its nev...

The "Pillsbury" of Puzzle Games 0

Portal 2, simply put, is intelligent, innovative, and massively entertaining. At least, that’s what it says on the back of the box. But the truth is, the game is so much more than that. Portal 2 delivers an experience that not many other video games do. The game combines mind-bending puzzles, clever humor, and a great story to create a very strong game of the year contender for 2011. Portal 2 continues where the original left off. You are woken up by a small little robot, which leads to you runn...

    Now You're Thinking. 0

Portal has become a household name in gaming, the first iteration being nothing more than an experiment which became a phenomenon that Valve, and the student developers of Narbacular Drop, could never have predicted. Portals, cakes, and science (because we can) quickly became the memes of the year and beyond as Portal permeated gaming culture in a profound way. Valve was pleased with this, and set to work quickly on a sequel, promising a lot more than a small experimental game with its second co...

Just a bit too short. 0

I loved the comedy in it, Steve Merchant really helped make the game what it is. I am yearning for more but it’s hard to distinguish whether or not if it is from a fantastic story or the fact it feels like something is missing. The stories were great and I liked being able to share the experience with a friend but the game as a whole is lacking. The premise of the game is to think with portals but it’s hard not to judge on what feels like re-runs of the first game, yes there was the addition of t...

    Must Buy 0

If you liked the first one, it's impossible not to be head over heels for this game. The story line, voice work, and structure is the best I've played since Red Dead Redemption, and has the feel of a true Half Life full release. All of the new puzzle pieces (the gel, light bridges, etc) are introduced one at a time throughout the game, only forcing a few scenarios where you feel a bit overwhelmed.  Graphics are, as expected from any Valve release, nothing short of spectacular. Lots of different ...

    Beautifully Simple 0

Portal 2 is a magnificent game, from start to finish, from single player to cooperative, from technical specifications to story telling. If you are a person looking for the evolution of gaming, Portal 2 is the game for you.The single player campaign in Portal 2 picks up from where the original Orange Box title left off. Roughly. I won’t spoil too much, but suffice to say, Portal 2 takes place after Portal. The story is told in a similar fashion to the original in that you are a silent protagonis...

The best fun you can have from a first person perspective... 0

Platform: Xbox360, PS3 and PC Certificate: 12 Developer/Publisher: Valve Genre: First person puzzle platformer     The single most defining moment of Portal 2 comes fairly early on in the game when you are navigating the incinerators deep beneath the Aperture laboratories. Leaping from walkways to conveyor belts you will see unwanted debris and detritus falling into furnaces along with the familiar softly spoken gun turrets and weighted storage crates. As you walk across one of...

    A Step Forward 0

I played the first Portal after my wife purchased The Orange Box. I wasn't t much  of a fan of Gordon Freeman's adventures, but Portal seemed a worthy distraction while the disc sat in our X-Box. I fought through the trials of the first game, faced GLaDOS and eventually dealt with her. The first game amazed me and really forced me to wrap my head around concepts in video games I had never really thought possible.  Portal 2 improves upon the groundwork of the first game in almost every way. When ...

a continued legacy of quality 0

With the first Portal we were given a bite sized puzzle game that introduced us to the mind bending concept of portals, physics, and momentum. And in this sequel we get a full blown title with a more robust campaign and the addition of multi player.   I could spend time talking about all the awesome parts of this game but there are 40+ reviews doing that already. There's really only one complaint i have about this game. Valve does such a perfect job of pacing the introduction of all the new puzz...

Portal 2 is just for you. YAY! 0

So, video games. Hmmm. I've played a fair amount of video games, I feel comfortable calling myself a gamer (though I don't define myself by that label) and I would also like to think that I have relatively good taste in games. Anyways, onto business.I viewed the original Portal as merely a fortuitous inclusion in the Orange Box. I was actually quite excited for HL2 and the included episodes 1 and 2 (like plenty of gamers, i'm poor and have to wait a while to buy games). I was pleasantly surprise...

Portal 2 Passes the Test 0

Below is the review for the single player campaign of Portal 2 and contains spoilers.Portal is an epic experience. From the gripping opening to the closing seconds of the game it is rollcoaster of pure awesome. Typically I would not string a series of adverbs in my writings but here they pale in fully describing how much I truly enjoyed the game. For Valve fans I think this sums up how I feel: I would rather have a Portal 3 before a Half-Life: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3.The game starts off more or...

    No Cake, No Problem 0

By Cody Newill             Portal was a surprising experience for a lot of gamers, myself included. Valve made an incredible acquisition when they hired the student team behind Narbacular Drop to make a game expanding upon the core concepts of their graduating project. The product was subtle narrative, solid puzzle design, and meme-producing humor all fit together in a perfect three-hour package. From the tone of the pre-release hype, it seemed that it would fly in under the radar, while its Or...

Portal turned up to 11. 0

Impossible to play without having a big grin on your face, Portal was revered for being a creative experience with some genuinely funny dialogue. This time around, they've taken what made Portal great and amplified it astronomically. Not only is Portal 2 a ridiculously fun game, it's also overflowing with charm. While you will never see another human being in your time at Aperture Science, you will still meet a few characters that you'll immediately grow fond of. Wheatley, a friendly AI core, st...

Just go out and buy it already 0

Normally I don't like puzzle games, but something about the original Portal made me feel compelled to try it. I fell in love after just a few minutes and wanted more. Portal 2 is exactly what I wanted and more. The story really plays an important role this time and its done rather cleverly. This is aided by the amazing voice work that provides tons of plot twists and sarcasm. I don't want to spoil anything, but the story will keep you engaged until the very end. Gameplay wise Portal 2 is a whole...

    One of the BEST 0

I went in to Portal 2 with very high hopes, and walked out completely satisfied and never so excited to have played a game. Portal 2's single player is an amazing experience, forcing players to REALLY use their heads to figure out the brilliantly assembled "tests" while mixing in some humor (that's actually funny). In addition to that, we get an amazing co-op campaign (with the ability to end friendships) forcing players to think even more, with the addition of 2 more Portals. Easily the top can...

Do you see what I see? 0

I was the only person in the world who thought that the original Portal was a decent but ultimately forgettable little puzzle game, apparently, because the majority of the gaming audience received the original Portal as though it was the second coming of Christ. Naturally, none of the raving about the second game made me the least bit excited for the return of Chell (the playable character) and GLaDOS. After about an hour, though, I was completely turned around. Portal 2 is a great game. It...

Simply put, if you don't buy this game then God will kill a kitten... and a puppy!Whoever played the first Portal knew that it was a great concept. A short, but very funny and well made game. This is the game Portal deserves to be. The graphics are great, the gameplay is very different but sooo rewarding and the writing... oh the writing is just spot on in every way. So to reiterate, do you want cute little animals to die? Hope not....

    Valve Saved Science 0

I've been waiting to review this game until I finished multiplayer, and now that I have, I can give it the 5 stars it absolutely deserves. The single player campaign really warrants the rating by itself, as it is twice as long as the campaign from the original and features loads more story and humor. The voice acting really is utterly top notch. with J.K. Simmons making a very welcome appearance as the president of Aperture Science, and Stephen Merchant as the earnestly clueless Wheatley. The co...

    Portal 2 Review: Triumph 0

Portal 2 is the follow up to the unique and inspired Portal from 2007. Portal was a short but incredibly tight and smart game budget game, while Portal 2 is being sold as a standalone product which has a lot to live up to. Portal to not only lives up to the legacy of the first Portal, but improves upon it in many ways. Portal 2 largely manages to maintain the strong points of its predecessor while simultaneously pushing the production values much higher, making the game worthy of being a full r...

Portal 2: Wheatley, you're making me feel uncomfortable 0

Arriving 4 years after the breakout success of Valve's Portal, Portal 2 is a fine piece of digital storytelling that is without a doubt one of the best games of the year. You play as Chell, a woman being experimented on like a lab rat by a sociopathic artificial intelligence called Glados. You are given a truly astonishing piece of technology called a portal gun which can make an entrance and exit on any compatible surface letting you link almost any two bits of geography to each other, creating...

    Absolutely fantastic 0

I usually hate when people discuss Valve games as they seem to hold Valve on this unattainable pedestal of perfection in game design. I never thought the Half Life games were the pinnacle of game design that some people apparently infer, but i have to give credit where credit is due for Portal 2.   Portal 2 takes everything that was wonderful in the first game and adds a nice additional layer to it that adds interest without adding undue complexity. Even a new player can hop into this game at al...

When writing up my thoughts on Portal 2 I had two options 1. I could attempt to be spoiler free and vague with my thoughts essentially smearing my review in a thin layer of Vaseline like vagueness or 2.I can just say what I want and preface the whole thing like this POTENTIAL SPOLERS!…There you’ve been warned. Too expensive for too little 0

I've just finished my first play though of Portal 2 and I'm feeling a bit ripped off, especially considering I only bought it today and it cost €50.   It took me around five hours to complete (the Steam clock says "4 hours" but I think I was playing it for a bit longer than that). The game itself doesn't really go in the direction I was hoping for in the sequel, opting more for comic moments and witty dialogue rather than fiendish puzzles and mind-bending level construction.  The Source engine a...

    Portal-rific ... ? 0

I went into Portal 2 expecting more of that same great experience I had in Portal. A few second into the game I could tell that this sequel was more then just a cosmetic makeover of its predecessor.  It is hard to imagine what goes on in the minds of the talented folks at Valve. I would like to think that Gabe Newell himself trains each employee individually on creativity. Each unique game play mechanism introduced throughout Portal 2 is used to solve multiple puzzles that require the player to ...

    An Absolutely Fantastic Experience. 0

If you're a PC player who uses Steam, then it was incredibly hard to miss all the excitement around the Potato Sack and ARG Valve came up with to promote this game. Over the course of weeks players found hidden clues in other games, digging around in various related files and all that. But we're not here to talk about Valve, let's talk Portal 2.Portal 2, as the name would imply, takes place a long time after the events of Portal 1. You once again are controlling Chell, the human test subject fro...

    Level editing made easy! 0

Portal 2 is one of those games that's so perfectly executed, it makes you worry whenever they try to add something new to it. Luckily, the Perpetual Testing Initiative not only gives you one of the easiest to use level editors in any game, but it includes a sizable amount of new Cave Johnson dialogue specifically for these user made maps, and thanks to Steam Workshop, sharing these levels with friends or strangers is incredibly easy.At a glance, it's easy to mistake the level editor as being may...

    Short but Sweet 0

Portal 2 is too short.  Not in the "wow this game really didn't give me what I paid for" way but in the "wow this was so fun, I really want to do a whole lot more!!"The puzzles weren't particularly difficult.  Arguably, they were easier than the most difficult puzzles from the first game.  But unlike the first game, they were all fun.  There were puzzles in the first Portal that were challenging mainly because they pissed me off and required precision reflexes- or death-and another load screen. ...

Portal 2 Review: A mechanical class act 0

Slight spoilers regarding the events of Portal. Also this review covers only the single-player experience. The co-op was unavailable to me at the time.I'll admit it. Offing multiple dudes with a variety of dangerous objects and guns can be very entertaining, but shotguns, machetes, rocket launchers, and plasma guns all do the job just fine--it's simply a matter of efficiency and pints of blood. Outside of that, the creativity is lost. It's for those reasons the lack of quizzical puzzles in most ...

    An amazing experience 0

Portal 2 expands and improves on its predecessor in almost every way, by moving away from the clinical looking test chambers of the original to more organic looking enviroments, the game is fare more varied and always seems to have a new exciting enviroment awaiting. While the 2004 vintage Source engine lets its age show in some blurry textures here and there, the fantastic visual design and above all the amazing care in the animation elevates the visual experience above what might be expected ...

This is silly. A review for Portal 2 ? Why? The game has a known quantity of fantastic – it's a lot of fantastic. Did you expect less? Unrealistically expect much more? Portal 2 is fantastic and I suppose if you want a reaffirmation of that statement of fact, then sure, read on.Valve did a lot with very little with Portal . Portal Perfected? 0

Upon having completed Portal over three years ago I felt as though I’d just played a near perfect game. So where does that leave its sequel? After all, it’s a game that manages to improve upon everything the original brought to the table, and then it goes the extra mile and adds even more. It’s been a while since the events at the end of Portal and it goes without saying that GLaDOS is none too pleased about how that all turned out. You play as Chell yet again, the same mute, imprisoned ...
