    Hey, so I don't really 'get' how the text chat works. Say I'm just in the main home center, and I walk past a group of people, and then I type something, can they see it, or do I have to kind of IM them somehow?

    and can everyone in the place see it? or only people near me?

    you dont need to create 2 different topics asking questions there are likely faqs online and Q&A and you could just make one topic with your questions.
    only people near you will see the text.

    Yes people nearby will see the speech bubble pop up above your avatar's head.
