    One-Handed Gameplay

    Concept »

Games that can be played with one hand, typically using only half of a standard controller or only the mouse/keyboard.

Games that can be played entirely with one hand.

So i just got my right arm royally fucked in a car accident, to the point that i am practically one handed for six to eight weeks.

I dug around in my steam library and found divinity original sin and have been playing the hell out of it (great game), but even in divinity i have had problems with the game requiring me to hold the ctrl key to do certain actions, and for some inexplicable reason the ctrl "attack object" function is the only key in the game that you cannot rebind, i have solved this by jamming a toothpick in my keyboard whenever i need it held.

So i would really appreciate any recommendations for pc games that are playable entirely with one hand, and while i am at it i would not mind recommendations for movies and documentaries worth watching because boy do i have a lot of spare time. :)

    Any help is greatly appreciatded.

I imagine any turn-based game should be fine.

If you own a smartphone the Dragon Quest games are all in portrait mode and playable with one hand (I would recommend Dragon Quest V). They are pricey for mobile games, but you are getting a full 40-60 hour JRPG.

Sorry about your arm though that sucks dude.

I realize you said PC specifically, but if you have a PS3 you can get Suikoden and Suikoden 2 on PSN which actually is set up to be played one-handed if you want. You can use the shoulder buttons (L1 and L2) instead of the face buttons on the right side of the controller and (I think) select brings up the menu? It's been a while but I'm pretty sure that's how it was.

There are two relatively new games that just had full releases that can be played one-handed.

Crypt of the Necrodancer can be played entirely with one hand. Its a roguelike game where movement and actions are made to the beat of the song.

Broken Age, Double Fine's latest adventure game. Everything is point and click.

@mrasshat: You also may want to look into a mouse with more buttons that you can bind to common keyboard functions, especially for things like holding shift and control like you mentioned.

One Finger Death Punch and Papers, Please can be played with just the mouse.

Oh, and if you have a PS4, Vita Or PS3 you can change the Dualshock's button layout from the accessibility settings, maybe that will enable you too customize them to something useable for you.

I've been playing 80 Days and Desert Golfing for a while now and they're easily playable with one hand. I may be an exception, but I can play them hours at a time.

The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match! Just kidding but it's possible as long as you know the intricacies of the input system.

But for real, Westerado seems like a game that can work decently with one hand.

@asylumrunner: I... don't think this particular situation is what Bayonetta's one handed mode is for, although yes, Bayonetta could be an option.

Legend of Grimrock 1 and 2 and Might and Magic X are first person dungeon crawlers that could be played entirely with the mouse.

Basically most rogue/rogue-lites/rogue-likes/whatever other dumb name they've been given recently can be played with one hand since it's typically not real-time.

@counterclockwork87: It's all a bit fuzzy now but IIRC you could set it to one-handed controls and tell the game to do a sort of auto-battle with a specific sequence of commands so I could grind without ever looking at the screen while driving.

On easier difficulties for sure, but when you get into the late game I doubt it. The problem is you will have to basically have your character stand still while you are clicking abilities on the tool bar, and that sounds like a great way to get killed.

Also I will add DEFCON: Everybody Dies to the list.

Wasteland 2 is pretty cool. I can't think of any reason you need two hands to play it.

    Shadowrun Returns

I haven't played it, but I suspect Pillars of Eternity would work, too.

Any turn based game world work I guess. These are just newer ones that come to mind.

First of all hope you're doing better and get well soon.

Most old school RPGs can be played one handed. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment... They all got enhanced editions out so they're quite easy to get.

4X games or maybe some title out of Total War series as well.

Thumper! - Map that action button to the left trigger, it will be a little bit uncomfortable but I think it could work. I did a little testing and I did pretty well, I imagine if I started with this setup I'd do fine.

Crypt of The NecroDancer and Cadence of Hyrule - my memory serves that you should not need any buttons, only directions and combination directions, but I did not test this today. Though a cursory google search confirms my memory.

    Hope you feel better
