I guess his... luck... ran out?

If I had 2 billion dollars burning a hole in my pocket the last thing I would want to be doing is wasting time at Facebook.
It'll be interesting to see what he gets into next if anything.
@werupenstein: that was 2 billion for the entire company i believe. his net worth is *only* around 700 mil. hope he gets back on his feet. :(
Eh, I think we all saw this coming, Palmer included. Maybe he can make a living being a professional Smash player and shitposter.
Bummer :/ internet strikes again. Well I guess he will have more time to play SUPER smash brothers on a big pile of money.
Probably for the best. I know my view of occulus was somewhat tainted by having him there after all that happened. Then again I'm not the biggest fan of facebook either frankly so *shrug*..
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but pretty much everything you enjoy in life was created by companies that employ multiple scum bags.
They fixed the glitch.
I like to think he was up on the rooftop at Hooli every day resting and vesting.
Someone at Facebook finally remembered they forgot to fire him.
@jec03: And therefore he must be crucified*
Edit: I think VR is trash but am willing to be convinced otherwise if it actually becomes profitable for game makers, I suspect Palmer Luckey is a douchebag but don't know enough about it to say one way or the other; the concept of a person being professionally "disappeared" after they make hundreds of millions of dollars is hilarious though.
When did gizmodo turn into a gossip rag? Wasn't it suppose to be tech.
@pufferfiz: When the main Gawker site when down in flames, the company or whomever decided that Gizmodo would be the new umbrella for all associated sites.
If I was 24, worth over 700 million dollars, and had no responsibilities, what would I do? Fund even more anti-Hillary ads on the internet? Sure, why the hell not? Spend a million one night on hookers and blow? Sure, got a million in my couch cushions somewhere. Give a million to a village in Africa to power their community for years? Sure, a million's a pittance. Spend every waking hour gaming being hand fed Doritos and Mountain Dew? Might as well.
Now he is free to pay hate groups to shit post and create meme magic without putting other peoples jobs in jeopardy.
Serious question: do people actually care anymore? I forgot he even existed until I saw this thread title.
That's exactly why Facebook handled this the way they did. Hide Luckey from the press for a few months until enough people forget about him as the the face of VR. Then it seems like a quiet footnote when he's finally cut loose. Your response is exactly what they were aiming for.
I guess his... luck... ran out?
Slow clap.

Facebook didn't get to where it is now by being bad at PR. Hide the problem and then deal with it once it's died down.
Does this even matter? Aren't the HTC Vive and Steam VR already winning the VR war? That's what it seems like from my uninformed perspective, at least.
Palmer is a kid who didn't get the chance to grow the fuck up because he became a famous multimillionaire. PewDiePie is the same way. They're only going to get more entrenched in their shitty views as time goes on. 1) because they are so far removed from the world most people live in. 2) they look at the world/media as their enemy.
It might sound weird, but I would never want to be them.
I said this before and I'll say it again. If he just cut a check to Trump's election campaign, this backlash would not have happened.
A little surprised it didn't happen sooner, but I totally get why they did it this way though. I'll be honest though. I always really liked the guy up until all the stuff came to light. Even after I wouldn't say I hated him or anything. Disappointed is a better word. Regardless, I hope the Vr industry, and by extension we, can move on at this point. Cause all the people at oculus, trying to pave the way for a new industry, didn't deserve to be indefinitely dragged down by one man's actions; regardless of his standing in the company.
Ousted is a bit of a strong word isn't it? It's easy to connect the dots on why this may have occurred but we have no idea if Palmer got into an argument with Oculus/FB or if it was just a mutual agreement that this is the best for both parties.
@probablytuna: The surprising pleasure of being Palmer Luckey.

Considering how the mainstream media (WSJ especially) has covered Pewdiepie he has every right to be disgusted with them. The way they've angled that stuff is insane and unethical.

So? How you feel about a company is a personal and not necessarily rational thing. Whats your point?
