In the real world light comes from the sun, a light bulb, a monitor screen as you waste time on the internet at obscene hours of the night, or a bevy of other sources. However this law is not always followed in video games. Be it for atmosphere, convenience, or the developer just could not be bothered to create a polygonal flashlight to accompany their equally polygonal FBI agent, light will somehow be magically created from nothing.
