Personally, I'd take Shift as I hated the direction the Need for Speed titles went in around the time Underground hit the market.

At a push it would need to be Shift purely because Underground wasnt a computer game, it was a kick in the nutsack

Shift, but only because I've already played Underground.

I don't care much for racing games, but if I had to choose I guess it would be Shift.

I would play Underground 1. One of the best Need For Speed games in my opinion.

I played the Shift demo on PC, and while I'd choose that over Underground, I don't think I'd really play much of either game.
 
You want me to tell you where I want EA to take the series?  Back to the very beginning!  When you were driving through long scenic areas, without the attitude, realism, open world, or any of the other shit they only added in later games.
