That's incredibly depressing for a $60, story-focused title. Honestly that breaks it for me. Is this true?

Really only 3 hours long?
I hope that all these comments are duplicitous, because I can't fathom why any development team would think that a three-hour-long racing game would be acceptable.

Because they figured that players, after finishing the short single-player, would then hop over and spend the majority of their time in multiplayer races. But from the sounds of things on that side of things, it sounds like the multiplayer is incredibly bare-bones and not really worth anyone's time with so many other, great multiplayer racing games already out there.
Yikes man, that is pretty pathetic. At what point in the development process did they think that was okay? I remember when we were all bemoaning an eight hour single player experience, but three? That isn't even an afternoon.
That's 3 hours of original road/track. They're just too dumb to make more out of all that road, like designing multiple events for the same stretch of road. Guess they didn't want to dillute their cinematic core concept with more 'game'. Bad call on their part. Show me a racer with more than 3 hours of original road. I don't think there's many out there.
That said, their failure to deliver more than just that 3 hours 'The Run' experience and not filling the game with more to do, as well as not letting us replay events seperately, just doesn't warrant a full price purchase. While I dig their core concept and love the idea of spending 3 hours playing the cinematic campaign, I will do so when it inevitably hits the bargain bin.
They should have compromised their 'ideal' and 'purity' of their core concept and actually delivered a fully featured game. Also - an actual 3 hours long non-stop race across the country against 200 racers with free saving system, now that would have been 'The Run' for me.
If you did one lap on each track in Forza 4 or Gran Turismo 5, the game wouldn't even be 3 hours long, the only reason those games are longer is repetition. I think you guys are giving this game a hard time over what shouldn't be an issue, I haven't played this game and I probably never will but judging it purely based on campaign length doesn't seem fair.

I agree with this. Another example is F1 2011. Theoretically their are hundreds of hours to be spent with in the career if you put on full races and weekends. Practices range from an hour to an hour and a half, qualifying from between 10-15 minutes then the race itself is is about an hour and a half. With 19 races per season and 5 seasons to win, that a healthy bit of racing. But it's 19 tracks which on average takes about 1:40:000 per lap. Racing is most definitely all about repetition.
Call of Duty is 4 hours, so is battlefield 3, those games have multilayer and so does this one. Forza is "longer" because it's a circuit racing game where you go round in circles for 40+ hours, this game has a narrative so it obviously can't go on forever.
i thought playing singleplayer mode in a competitive game is out of style since ps3/360 was born?
for me single player mode in a competitive game is obsolete. i didnt even finish modnation's singleplayer and i bought it at launch. i barely touch singleplayer. same goes to super sf4 i dont give a damn about single player finishing story mode.i didnt even bother to to beat modnation's single player mode. always online race. if i want to play with AI i play god of war and bayonetta.
and i thought i comment on this thread already.
