Mutant was originally spun off in 1984 from the fantasy themed Drakar & Demoner role playing system (itself adapted from Steve Perrin's Basic Role Playing System).
Over the years the Mutant franchise has had numerous settings, including Mutant Rymd, similar to Warhammer 40K, which eventually turned into Mutant Chronicles and the miniature battle system Mutant Chronicles: Warzone. Mutant Rymd also incorporated elements from the older role playing system Kult, including enemy types. An MMO-RTS called Warzone Online: Mutant Chronicles was announced in 2000 by Paradox Interactive, with a planned 2003 release for PC and Xbox, but the game was quietly cancelled.
Target Games was the original publisher, today Cabinet Entertainment and Paradox Interactive hold the rights.
