    Overview

Occurring in a number of variations, the "Money as Ammo" concept sees weapons in a game cost currency to use, rather than standard ammunition. This is most often used as a risk-reward system in games, presenting players the option of expending valuable currency for higher damage, such as with Terraria's Coin Gun. Some games present Money as Ammo systems not as a reward but as a way of limiting and pressuring the player, like in the Metro series, where ammunition is literal currency.

    Examples

    The Legend of Zelda

In lieu of arrows, the bow used rupees to attack.

    Fallout: New Vegas

Players can cast ammo for the 12 gauge shotgun out of Legion Denarii.

    Metro 2033

Military Grade Rounds act as the primary currency of the game, and also as regular ammunition.

    Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The Loaded Shuriken can be upgraded to fire Sen coins. Having more Sen increases the damage, but decreases the player's wallet faster.
