So the other day I was bored and decided to play Modern Warfare 2. I go back to that game when I don't really have any other games to play or can't think of anything else to do. As I was playing it a few days ago, I realized that I think I could go for another Modern Warfare style game. Mind you, I didn't play Black Ops, so I haven't filled my year with first person shooting. So... does this make me one of them? Am I a bad person for wanting another Modern Warfare?
Modern Warfare
The Modern Warfare franchise includes some of the most popular first person shooters of all time.
I think I want another Modern Warfare game.
No you are not. Modern Warfare was a fantastically tight game and it's a shame that for some reason it wasn't so future proof. It really could do with a refresh and there is no doubt they are going to knock it out of the park.
However, I'm only interested in Battlefield 3 but I don't want it to "BEAT" CoD because they are both good and fun for different reasons.
The thing is, journalist will find it easy to get tired of modern military shooters and be a part of the 'backlash' because there are a lot of them being released and they are constantly having to play them for their jobs. Consumers don't buy or play every game. I haven't played a military shooter in a long time, so I am more than ready to pick one up. The Battlefield 3 Alpha is great. If you are tired of military shooters, and keep on buying them then it's your problem. If you don't buy them and still complain, you need to spend more time playing games than looking at the ones you aren't going to buy.
I'm not blaming journalists of course. I'm just saying they are over exposed to the full tide of games with similar settings, premise and mechanics. Not a position everyone else is in.
I'm depending on people like you to buy MW3 and keep BF3 in 3rd/4th place (against mw3, gears3 and halo). if it reaches number one, the franchise as we know it will die
please do go for mw3 and enjoy it :D
Nah, you're not evil. If you haven't been gorging yourself on FPS games all this time and skipped the last COD offering, it's perfectly reasonable to want another. And Activision wants you to want another, so it's a win-win situation. Of course, don't forget this this MW3 comes after the whole Infinity Ward debacle. We'll see if the game is just more-of-the-same or if it adds enough newness to be called a proper successor to MW2. Now, if by "one of them" you mean a lowbrow, knuckle-dragging, troglodyte who communicates primarily through belches and farts, then yes, it does make you one of them. Isn't that the image we have of people who play Call of Duty these days? Stop worrying about your gamer-cred and just enjoy the games you enjoy.
I had my fill of those games after i played COD4, but to each their own. They do sell like hot cakes, and most people seem to find the multiplayer amongst the best in the business.
I don't, but again, to each their own.
However, I may consider picking it up if that horde mode thing is any good.

@Kyreo: I don't want Modern Warfare 3 because it looked like they swapped a few textures in MW2 and called it MW3. The flipping M to make WW3 was also pretty heinous. However, I may consider picking it up if that horde mode thing is any good.
Dear friend. I believe you are missing my point. I think those things are bad and you are justified in feeling that way, but what I meant was, I could play MW2 again and if they wanted to resell it to me with some new guns and shit, I would be okay with that. I don't like that I want that game. I am no better than the Frat boys that "get smashed and play COD."
It's just not exactly my cup of tea anymore.
I got Call of Duty fatigue during the Black Ops campaign. Maybe because I play them on Veteran, maybe because I ended up playing too many hours of the multiplayer, but somehow I just got bored. Which is why, ironically enough, I am looking forward to Battlefield 3. I want the same, but different. And I haven't played a Battlefield game seriously since Battlefield 2 and having tried Bad Company 2 recently, I realized I miss the size of those maps because I'm a sniper at heart.
Still, the Modern Warfare games by themselves have been pretty damn awesome and it wouldn't surprise me if this one is equally good.
No, my MW2 disc wont work anymore. But I like playing CoD for like a quick 2-3 games everyone once an a while. It's the only game I can hop in and get into a game quickly. The other take too long to start, and reach has become unplayable unless your with your clan or play it everyday.
I really like Modern Warfare, so I'm actually eagerly waiting for MW3. I played Black Ops and thought it was fine, but didn't manage to keep me entertained after finishing the campaign. I tried the BF3 alpha and that game is not for me. I just don't like it, I find it boring and dull.
So, yeah, I want a new MW too.
Yes it's the equivalent of killing a homeless person.Well, that's not so bad then.
</dumbjokes>
I don't know. If I buy it, it will be for the story. As ridiculous as it is, Soap and Price are still two cool dudes, and I want to see what happens to them.
On another note, it's fucking retarded that they took away dedicated servers on PC for MW2 and returned them in Black Ops, and now are taking them away again. I would be much more likely to buy MW3 if there were dedicated servers. I do enjoy MW2 every now and then like you were saying - when I don't want to play anything else that is time-consuming, and just want to start up a game that can just be dropped at the tip of a hat. It's a great game for that.

Feeling bad for wanting a game because you think it makes you into something other than yourself - who just wants to play something he finds fun - also makes you a bad person.
You can wait, which is what I plan on doing this year.I'd go for MW3 too if the price wasn't 60 dollars, but hey what can ya do?
It's really too bad, but after the never-patched online disaster that was Modern Warfare 2, I don't feel like giving away more of my money.

Nice logic you have going there.

But they're all Modern Warfare style nowadays.
Moderner warfare: Modernest warfare ever.
