    but when i tried my controller over Steams free multi-player weekend it just did not work.  Does it just not work or maybe the free version on steam just did not have that feature.  Anyone know?
    Oh and before some smart-ass replies with "Derp, mouse and keyboard is better! Durrrrr..." Be that as it may,  let me say that some of us have bad backs and don't wanna be hunched over a mouse and keyboard after a hard day of work.

    first check if windows recognizes the controller in the control panel... 
     
    my 360 controllers work fine with my pc but I dont use Steam so I can't tell you about that specifically

    Not according to the Steam Forums. 
    So No would be my answer. 
     
    I have a bad back too, but I never in my life felt the need to be hunched over when using a mouse and keyboard. Unless my keyboard and mouse was on the floor and my chair was like 20 feet high.

    I use a pretty powerful Laptop that kinda lends itself to leaning over.... soon as i can go with a good desktop setup and a nice new chair...oh man.... may never go outside agin.
    Thanks for the info folks.  I'll have to see about knocking it off the list on GB.

    Maybe not steam directly? But I've used one before, my friends use them.  My girlfriend's 15 year old brother has one hooked up to his PC to play NBA 2k10 and he figured it out.  I don't know how but I'm sure it's not hard to find. It has to be wired though, not a plug and play cable because those don't transfer data, only power.

    This may not actually help in your case but Tested did a nice article about console controllers on PC/Mac.  There might be something in there that helps someone so I thought I would toss it out there.
