Overview
Microsoft Ultimate Word Games is a free-to-play word puzzle collection developed and digitally released by Microsoft Studios (co-developed with Behaviour) for the PC and Windows Phone on June 7, 2017. It was later made available on online browsers (via MSN Games) by Double Coconut.
Part of the Microsoft Casual Games series, Microsoft Ultimate Word Games includes an updated version of the Boggle-style game Wordament (now with a single-player puzzle mode) as well as two additional single-player games: Word Twister (based on the Jumble word puzzle) and Crosswords (a simple crossword puzzle game).
All three games are arranged with a single-player "map progression" system similar to other free-to-play games, where players earn stars for completing different challenges for each puzzle.
Along with multiple themes, the game features Xbox Live support (including achievements and leaderboards) and a Daily Challenges mode (where players are given unique goals for each of the three games). As a free-to-play game, it uses in-game advertisements which can be disabled by purchasing a monthly/yearly Premium membership.
The game was originally part of a poll about what game they should make next, winning out over Microsoft Casino Collection, Microsoft Chess, Microsoft Hearts, and Microsoft Bubble.
