Mat began his career in programming with Microsoft working in the Visual Studio Team. In 2000 he saw that Bungie Studios (then apart of Microsoft) were looking for a tools programmer and decided to apply for the job. After a somewhat intense interview process he got the job and helped Bungie ship Halo: Combat Evolved.
On Halo 2, Mat spent a lot of his time working on Bungie's highly regarded audio engine. With Halo 3 it was his job to make sure the game ran both with and without a hard drive connected, a job that reportedly almost didn't get finished (Bungie Podcast).
Both his mother and father were huge influences to him. They had a huge interest in computing themselves, his mother programmed games for Mat and his brother when they were children on the Apple II. His brother now runs a web comic.
