Blank originally started working on Zork after becoming frustrated with the limited vocabulary of the Adventure game. He and several others originally developed Zork for the PDP-10 in 1977. He graduated medical school in 1979 but continued to develop Zork for other computers. He, along with Michael Berlyn, founded Berlyn, Blank, and Co., later changed to Eidetic, to create software for the Apple Newton. As Newton sales fell, Eidetic changed direction, eventually releasing the highly successful Syphon Filter. Eidetic was eventually acquired by Sony. Blank left Sony in 2004 to work on ChatterEmail for the Palm Treo. By 2007, Blank had announced he would no longer be actively working on ChatterEmail.
