So Gametrailers posted this trailer today mistakenly early and then they took it down and now BOOM. Like a ninja I found dat shit on Youtube. (okay so I complained on twitter and someone linked me but hey...) Anyways, trailer is below. Looks pretty great if you ask me I really enjoy the character design of Lightning she is one of my favorite female characters I think probably ever if I really drill down into things. Anyways as advertised looks like its going to be her final journey and she is doing it alone. I'm going to be real interested to see how they explain and work in everything that happened at the end of FFXIII-2 and how exactly she plans on saving not just the world but well... time itself. So whats everyone think?
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Nov 21, 2013
The final game in Lightning's story arc in the Final Fantasy XIII universe.
Yo son... come get that hot hot Lightning Returns Trailer!
suprisingly hyped but that battle system looks worrying .. if its alll basicly an extended version of the lightnings requiem minigame (the "true ending" dlc ) then im going to be sorely disappointed .. it was fun but a single party member for the entire game :( blleehhhhhh
otherwise looks like were slowly converging on the world from the original ff versus 13 trailer.

That city reminded me of the one in Dragon Age 2.
well DA2 was basically a JRPG anyway so it makes perfect sense
@Demoskinos: pulse made the world and lindzei made the fal'cie (and cocoon) so I would assume they're all equally important (I think Lindzei was the deity the Primarch was trying to bring back by killing Cocoon)
Man, you can really hear the Liara in Lightning's voice. The city setting is kinda weird, and got a bit of an AssCreed vibe from it.
@Demoskinos: Lightning strikes me as an unremarkable character, not terrible granted and certainly no Hope but not really anything special either. Karen from Shadow Hearts: Covenant is probably the best female character I can think of and exceeds Lightning in virtually every regard up to and including usefulness in combat.
So the game is now RPG Assassin's Creed where everything climbable is highlighted in red similar to Mirror's Edge, and at some point Lightning gets sick ass Adam Jensen sunglasses?
What the fuck is Final Fantasy XIII now?

well considering how 13-2 ends, lightening is basically a demigod by this point, so probably a little more useful (I agree with you on the whole though, not that special).
@Demoskinos: they wanted to bring back their deity because of... reasons I can't even begin to remember, and ragnarok was just them trying to save cocoon
god that game is such a blur, I remember 13-2 much better
Not a huge fan of Lighting as a character, but she was miles ahead of pretty much everyone else but Sazh... Come to think of it, I would totally play Sazh Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
@Demoskinos: Orphan's ploy was to kill everybody on Cocoon so that their departing souls would throw open a metaphysical door beyond which their god lived. Basically, the Fal'cie missed their daddy so they threw a hissy fit to get his attention. Ragnarok, I believe, was the only thing badass enough to do the job, since Cocoon Fal'cie are apparently prohibited from sabotaging themselves.
Didn't find it a terribly compelling motivation at the time, but there it is.
I do think Snow is a great character if only for silliness and propensity for breaking the 4th wall. Also punching dudes and shooting guns in the air yelling you're a terrorist is fantastic.
No intention on buying it because I can't stand Final Fantasy stories anymore (XII-2's characters broke me) but I find myself interested non-the-less because it looks like they made the game like the Lightning DLC for XII-2 which was the only part of the game I actually liked. Well, the one-on-one system anyway, not having to fight that dude over and over and lose over and over just so that I could "level up" and finish it.
@Animasta: yeah but wont the whole eventual endpoint be that time is fixed blah blah and serah doesnt have to sacrifice herself to save lightning form her destiny since lightnings destiny of being stuck in time or whatever will not exist ? just saying its highly likely serah comes back.

They have yet to mention her at all, afaik, so I honestly have no idea
This looks fucking terrible. Holy shit. The environments look like an Xbox game uprezed in HD. I got a Sudeki vibe from it. And that framerate. That HUD. Ugh. Please Square, don't fuck this up any further than you already have.
edit: didn't square say that this was an action-RPG, not unlike Versus ? If so, then why do I get the feeling that the combat is the exact same as in the first two games, but with actions mapped to the face buttons, Dragon Age-style ?

@Animasta: I got a bit of a Crisis Core vibe off of it minus the absolutely DUMB slots system.
If this game is even half as good as Crisis Core I will be happy.
It is almost like they grabbed footage from a prototype build...The city seems empty, and uninteresting.
The combat might be great, and that's why I stuck through all of XIII and most of XIII-2, so I guess a wait and see approach is in order.
And by wait and see I mean, wait until I can snag it from 20 bucks or less.
@TooWalrus: Because you're being irrational ? Seriously, there is nothing to be hyped about for now. Maybe the game will turn out to be great; but from what we have so far, you should not be reacting this way.
Nice, looks pretty badass. It looks like this time around, Paradigms will change the inputs of ABXY and give it that more action-RPG feel. Also, she looks like a more awesome and flow-y version of Ezio when walking around town. Love her new style, they really know what to do when designing her character. I noticed as well that you can change equipment and it actually will change what she's wearing. That's neat as fuck, finally a Final Fantasy game with equippable clothing and gear that you can notice, instead of just a sword or accessories. I can't remember if any other FF games have that feature.
As someone who's never played any of the XIII games, the only thing that stands out to me personally in that trailer aside from that delightful frame rate is that innocuous pole in the middle of the city. I just like how it seems to be there mostly because it can be there and nothing else.
