Life is indeed strange, and awesome and so is this game.
Its 5 minutes after 2 am, and my heart is still above normal speeds. Right now the credits to the fifth and final episode of Life is Strange are playing in the background while I try to come to terms with the experience I just had. One thing I am sure of is that this amazing game is one of my favorite games of this year.
Where other games try to capture grand moments, that are supposed to make the player feel part of something incredible. Life is Strange is all about the little moments. It's those moments that more than once touched me when playing the game. And while those experiences never lined up with the experiences I had growing up. There was a similarity to them. The emotions Max and Chloe felt. I could relate to. It created a bond. This bond made me play this game with a lot more care and concern than I do with most other video games.
The time reversal mechanic is the primary gameplay mechanic of life is strange. And it's through this mechanic that the writers add a three-dimensionality to the characters in the game. Being able to reverse time and choose the conversation option you hadn't yet picked could change characters you hated at first into three dimensional human beings and not the flat monsters you had them pictured as.
This made me at multiple times at least feel a little bad regarding the choices I made and the things I said to other characters.
The major theme of Life is Strange is Friendship. The friendship Max has with her friend Chloe and the friendship Chloe had with Rachel. These friendships are the machine driving the story forward. And It helps a lot that the friendships feel real. It's the moments and emotions, you and your friends felt while doing something similar or totally different.
There are other theme's but explaining those would get quite deep into spoiler territory. So I'll save those for my longer and more spoiler filled blog post. . But to do that I need to collect my thoughts and actually figure out a way to get all the thoughts in my head on to a screen in a way that makes sense.
I don't want to go to deep into the story, But I will say that as of right now I can't stop thinking about it. If you want to find out more, you should go play the game. Seriously It's worth it, both of your time and your money. Unless your a heart-surgeon delaying a heart-surgery so you can play this game, or someone else important that's putting of important stuff to play this game. If you're not in those groups. You know what to do.
