Just finally got this from GameFly and finished it up today, and I have to ask:
Has anybody noticed how hilariously strange some of Rico's voice clips are in combat?

"Roll 'em!" (I think this was preceded by something about cowboys I didn't catch)
"Pop those tops!"
"187 on that motherfucker!" (what, has California been expanded to include SPACE? Universe-wide west side?)

Maybe these aren't as weird as I think they are, but I had a good laugh at these anyway.

Yes, some of his dialogue is downright stupid. In fact, Rico is all around a pretty terrible character.

Rico is such an idiot. Whatever though, he makes for some good comedic relief.

I never heard any of his dialogue, i was listening to ice cube instead.

I didnt find rico to be that terrible, a little weird and a bit of an ass but nothing too bad.

Not funny. It's just one of those military slangs they've learnt throughout their military life. They're just tools of war, nothing more. Brainwashed to fight for our leaders gratification.

If I were to list which secondary characters I hate the most, Rico would be the top.

It sucked ass that they decided to flesh out the most horrible character. Only Natko could compete with Rico, that guy has NO IMPACT AT ALL on the story and you hang with him maybe for 10 seconds.

Imagine my cringe when one of the first screenshots of KZ3 was a shot of Rico.

Yah i kinda wished they killed off Rico and left Garza alive.  He was a much better character.

Killzone 2 has some of the worst characters and dialogue I've ever experienced in a game, and I wasn't hoping for that much. It could have at least been on par with say Gears or Halo but sadly it was not. Rico's comments were typical machoistic nonsense, and the conversation about sandwiches was thoroughly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I actually think Ricos terrible character is kinda neat - like he DOES suck and IS annoying and FUCKS UP EVERYTHING - but the fact he gets such a strong reaction from people - in my eyes just shows that if their goal was to try and make a 'good guy' character that genuinely was an unlike able  asshole and genuinely was completely batshit incompetent, but that you had to roll with him anyways  - then they succeeded rather well. 
And i reckon Ricos actions at the end of the game reinforce that his disgust inducing manner is totally part of his character design
