  Former Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West are bringing a lawsuit against Activision for breach of contract and other claims, after Activision terminated their employment on March 1. The press release announcing the suit claims that Activision was scheduled to pay "substantial royalty payments," but fired them before the date of the payment.

"Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public," attorney Robert Schwartz said, "last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st."

In addition to compensation, the suit seeks to return the contractual rights Zampella and West previously had to the Modern Warfare brand.

However, I had this itching feeling for a little bit that Infinity Ward was probably talking to other places about buying up the studio.  For some reason, I even felt that itching involved Valve...especially with the amount of talk that they had with Valve about Steam-integration.  =  / 
 
I don't know.  I just know that this is all pretty ridiculous.

I'm not fans of Infinity Ward but I'm praying to Space Jesus in hope that they win.

Question is, who would have the most backing? I would think Infinity Ward for sure.

After all, why would you want to pay someone when framing them is so much easier?

This is so friggin crazy, I honestly can't believe this is happening. This is a straight-up, vicious bloodbath.

This scandal would make an interesting film. I remember some dude made a comment saying that the Activision company is being run by NBC executives.

They have a good case to make. Seems petty to fire them over insubordination when they released one of the most successful video games in history.

If this is really as simple as Activision creating grounds to fire these people so they wouldn't have to pay them the money they earned - that's really fucking pathetic. Disgusting.

"We gave them their highest grossing game" isn't really a good legal argument. "They should be grateful" doesn't really mean anything as long as it isn't in their contract.

you know what this reminds me of .. Ghost and Roach  (   Vince Zampella - Jason west ) in mw2 being betrayed by commander Shepard ( Activision ) fits so well..

I hate to be 'that guy' and play devils advocate for a moment, but that's business. People aren't going to put someone in a CEO position because they care about the product, they're going to put them in that position because they know what to do to maximise profits for 'The Company'. "
