Now I don't want to get everyone's hopes up, even though I totally did with a title like that, but I think we are finally going to see Black Mesa get released this year. The Black Mesa twitter account posted, "When the Black Mesa facebook page hits 20,000 likes we'll be posting some exciting new media!" Well that happened and here you go, new media.

Ok so they're just new screenshots, but they're pretty sweet screenshots. When you think about how this is all from a mod and how much more detail it has then the original Half Life its hard to not be impressed. Screenshots are nothing new however and not a good reason to think its being released. That is until I read this.

There was a cool article about the project's current state in RPS a while back, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get released within a year or so.

It's a sad day when we can expect this to be released before any official announcement for Half-Life 3...

Various stuff has kept me from playing through the original Half-Life over the years so if this gets done any day I'd be willing to try it.

Maybe this will be the thing that will finally get me to play Half-Life. Look forward to its release.

Only played the first two hours of HL1 a year ago and it was too outdated to continue. This mod is exactly what I need. 
 
I liked them on Facebook, happy they exceeded the 20K mark since I gave them my like (was at 6K)

those games are pretty old hat now. I loved em, but i guess the wait has soured me to them a bit.

At this rate, the two of them will come out on the same day. Along with an announcement of Half-Life 2 [new engine name] being developed by the same people.

I hope it gets released soon-ish...! I've been wanting to play Half-Life (again) for quite a while, but I keep waiting for this mod ^^

They do this every year. "Hey! Here are some screenshots and maybe a video. We're totally still working on it. We promise. More info soon!"

Wake me next year for another update. I can't wait to play it in 2027. I hope they put out a holotape collector's edition that I can put on the shelf of my space pod.

I'm pretty sure they said it was on the episode 2 version, so its not too outdated.

Hate to throw cold water on all of those saying "I'm waiting on this to play Half-Life 1" but... Black Mesa isn't a high-res remake anymore. I read the Rock Paper Shotgun interview last week. Somewhere during their development, they decided to do their own level-design from the ground up. This is an "wholly original" tribute, if that makes any sense.

So the only way to experience Half-Life 1 will still be... playing Valve's Half-Life 1 in all of its 1998 fuglyness. Black Mesa is not the greatest game in the world. It is just a tribute.

I think this would have been much more impressive a few years ago than it is now, by now, it'll just seem dated; better than the original Half-Life by a huge margin, but still dated.

@JeanLuc: I'd given up all hope.

I just dont believe in this mod. It wont be released.

I gave up on my infrequent checks of the Black Mesa website a few months ago. I guess a watched pot never boils XD

They've gone on record to say that 'holy shit, we showed this mod waaay too early' and have gone on to suggest that it's nearing completion. Having learned their lesson in showing it too early, maybe new screens are an indication that they're actually really close now. There's still 6 months left - heck, they just might make it.
