Overview
George Lazenby is an Australian actor best known for portraying James Bond in one feature film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, released in 1969.
Originally, On Her Majesty's Secret Service was unfavourably viewed by critics and audiences alike - primarily for the long runtime and replacement of Sean Connery. The film has however seen modern reappraisal for being closely accurate to the original source material, and many retrospectively view Lazenby in high regards.
Despite being set to play James Bond in several future films, Lazenby decided to retire from the character shortly after the release of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. He would arrive at the premier for the film with long hair and a beard, further insinuating his departure from the series. This resulted in Eon Productions searching for several actors to portray Bond - including American actors Burt Reynolds and Clint Eastwood, before finally returning the role to Sean Connery for one last time in the 1971 feature film Diamonds Are Forever.
