    The original Futuremark was founded in 1997 after Remedy Entertainment developed a 3D benchmarking program that did not fit with the company's aim of making action games. From this it was decided a new company should be formed, and thus Futuremark was created.

    The company was purchased by Rovio, the developer of the mobile game Angry Birds in March of 2012.
