Game is $5 on http://www.ftlgame.com/, and you get a Steam key.

Also $5 on GOG, and you get some extras like 5 tracks from the OST, etc.

If you listen to the podcasts, you know this game is all kinds of awesome, so it's a no brainer. Also plays on just about any PC.

Thanks for the heads up. I almost purchased on the sale last weekend, but didn't for some reason. After listening to the Bombcast this week, 5 bucks seemed like a no brainer to give this a shot. I just pulled the trigger.

@Kerned: Is it accessible or am I just going to have a hard time getting into it? For the record I find it hard to keep up with all the stuff something like Command and Conquer wants.

@Wampa1: There is certainly a learning curve. Figuring out a good strategy is a big part of the game, but so is luck. There is a lot of randomness involved (equipment, encounters, etc.) Things aren't necessarily spelled out for you, and you will fail over and over and over again, but it's the enjoyable sort of repeated failure. I never once found it frustrating. It's sitting pretty in the #2 spot on my personal GOTY list.

It's the most accessible roguelike you will ever play.

EDIT: Also, probably one of the best. Everyone, buy this game!

@Krakn3Dfx: Cheers for the heads up duder!

I was going to call this the best drunk purchase this week, but I bought Hotline Miami last weekend while inebriated so we'll have to see how it stacks up!

Thanks a lot! I've been on the fence since I started PC gaming (like 4 days ago) about getting this and I just had to get it for $5. I just played it and died sadly after getting to a third nebula. But it's a really neat game!

This game is worth way more than that. I've played roughly 55 hours of it.

@awesomeusername: Pro-tip: spend as much time as you can in each sector before moving on. Visiting as many systems as possible will give you more opportunities to gather scrap, loot and extra crew -- all things that you will desperately need later on.

@Kerned: Will do, thanks. I whizzed through the second nebula because I was running out of fuel and it was that purple nebula so I was scared I would get destroyed in there. I fought like 2 times and when I got to the third one, a rebel ship was harassing a fuel depot (for like the 3rd time in one playthrough) and destroyed me after 30 seconds or so because my hull was at 1 health left. It was fun though.

Question though. Upgrades don't carry over right? Once you die, you start from scratch?

You will eventually unlock new ship types, but aside from that nothing carries over.

@Kerned: I knew you unlocked different ships but okay. I want to play it again but I shouldn't. I need to do this paper.

@awesomeusername: Yeah, write that paper. FTL will suck you in. When it first came out it hooked me so hard that I would play it for hours at work.

@Kerned: That's terrible! I have to many games to play once my break starts and I don't know if I can resist the urge to play all these PC indie games I bought. My poor, poor PS3 and Vita. I haven't played them in days.
