I've played a myriad of free-to-play MMOs, but none of them have really grabbed me. I think the only one I really went back to a few times (before it shut down) was Shadowbane, a primarily PvP MMO with a bunch of neat races, classes, and lore. I never once partook in Shadowbane's PvP, though... my one true regret.
I want to say SWTOR as it's the only MMO I've enjoyed for more than 3 months, but I don't really consider it to be a free-to-play MMO... the restrictions are too great. As a subscriber, it's a fine game. It is the only MMO I can really stand, aside from Shadowbane and City of Heroes/Villains. But the free-to-play scheme in SWTOR is awful.
The best free-to-play model, as far as I'm concerned, is something like Dungeon & Dragons Online's setup. Largely unrestricted, especially in the beginning of the game. Up-front purchases for permanent unlocks, or subscriptions for large-scale temporary unlocks/perks. Also, there is the capacity to earn store money in-game. It's a very good system that doesn't feel oppressive or greedy. At least, that's how I remember it when I played it a while ago.
