Steve Wilhite told the New York Times that he was "annoyed" there was still a debate over how to say the acronym.

He added that the Oxford English Dictionary was wrong to say it could be pronounced both ways.

An acronym is not a collection of phonemes, but graphemes. Basically, the pronunciation of the acronym is not based on the original words, and it doesn't matter how you pronounce the word "graphics."

One of my friends told me this a year or two ago so I changed my pronunciation because I can learn from mistakes.

I'm sorry, but it's an acronym, not a real word. You can pronounce it however you want.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the "G" stood for "GIRAFFE" then I'd be fine with that but no it stands for "GRAPHICS" with a hard G. I don't care what the creator says that's just weird. If I wanna say JIF then I'd be referring to peanut butter. :D

What all these similar threads have shown is that a lot of people don't know what acronyms are or how they work. Shows the sad state of our education system.
