Sony's in trouble if they tried to reproduce Kinect at this point.
MS has an SDK out, there's a huge community of developers around Kinect, world wide - and they are all learning how to use Kinect on MS's platforms, the PC and 360. They also hold many new patents surrounding the use of Kinect in video games and applications, even in marketing and advertising. They have also done the years of search required to develope the software technologies that make Kinect possible. After all, the device it's self is worthless without the software that drives it.
For Sony to follow MS now, would be ill advised. This boat has been missed. They need to now look at other options. You can't just copy everyone if you're going to come in so late. Look at the PS Move. It's the Wiimote, 4 years late.
Will we next hear that the PS4 has a tablet controller like the Wii U too? Doubtful. My guess is Sony has learned from the PS Move and will not risk failing to be innovative again.
People can say no as much as they'd like, but manufacturers don't lie. If Sony has no delays (which is possible) then I'm sure we could see a 2012 release. Think about it, There really isn't much else coming out for the PS3, than whats been announced already. Theres no awaited la noire, no heavy rain, no killzone 2, etc., there aren't any surprise games that have been delayed numerous times that we'd see coming out. Essentially the PS3 is a complete console and with PS Vita coming out, Sony wants to refresh the branding.
Also keep in mind, Sony may have learned from the launch in 2006, that it's better to get a head start on Microsoft than to wait so long. Nintendo might find themselves in trouble as well.
With these executives recently receiving paycheque slashes as well, maybe they wanna rush the end of this gen for them and start fresh new again
no, it won't happen. they're most likely planning on the design of the ps4, and so is microsoft. sony needs their people back because of psn going down.
An evil plan by sony obviously. They convinced me buying a ps3 slim, been enjoying it for awhile, however, this is just so unfair, lol. As if I am going to 1000$ for the ps4 (a couple of norwegian sites have listed ps4 for sale on that price).

I was also thinking the same about Microsoft releasing a new system in 2012 but, after seeing the specs and no HD-BluRay support so far for the Wii U...I don't think Sony or Microsoft have too much worries to wanna release a new console in 2012. I predict the Sony-Microsoft war will kick in in 2013.

But Microsoft has it even worse. Gears 3 comes out later this year and... a few Kinect games? And the new Halo trilogy of course.
I feel like Sony has no need to push for new generation right now.

Exactly the wrong way to go about it - the smart thing is to wait until people forget it, then show off a new platform.
Just dont see it, they have talked alot about their 10 year plan, what with all the Vita connectivity there is not hint of the PS3 winding down yet IMO.
Funny, though, the PS3 slim rumors started something like this, an unauthorized release of information, clandestinely, from a manufacturing site in mainland China.
I doubt it. I think they might have considered it if Wii U was going to be disruptive, but it seems like both Microsoft and Sony are secure that Nintendo isn't going to make waves at all.
Sony CEO Howard Stringer suggested last month that PS4 was still fairly far off.
"PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride," he said. "And technologically, I don't think it's possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have. What we've seen from the competition is trying to add features that already exist in PlayStation 3. We invested heavily in that, we rolled a very heavy rock up a steep hill, through the launch period. But now I think that all pays off, and we've got a long run way behind it. So, I wouldn't look for any discussion of a next generation PlayStation for quite some time."
He also added, "I didn't see anything about Nintendo's [Wii U] announcement that said 'Oh, we'd better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.'"
