Hey duders, here's the deal. You may turn one game, or its gaming franchise into a movie, a TV show or an anime. One of each. What games would you pick?

  • Movie: Infamous - I really dug infamous and infamous 2 and the story of Cole McGrath would offer a great platform for a blockbuster movie (I doubt it would ever happen - but it's my personal choice). Question is who could play Cole? Eric Ladin? I mean he did a fantastic job as the voice of Cole for Infamous 2.
  • TV show: Alan Wake - I would LOVE to see an Alan Wake TV show. The game already lended itself to the episodic formula and the story was fab.
  • Anime: No More Heroes - Let's be honest, Suda 51's game's would all lend themselves fantastically to the anime genre and none more so in my opinion then No More Heroes. I would love to see an anime of this and follow the adventures of Travis Touchdown - it'd be great.

So what's everyone else got?

Movie: Deus Ex: Human Revolution would work very well as a movie

TV show: Primordia. Would be fun to see more Horatio and Crispin and a TV show might work.

Anime: Dark Souls: The Adventures of Solaire!

Honestly?

I can't think of any. Not that I don't think that it can't be done, but most of my favorite games are served best as games and that's how I prefer them. I wouldn't want to play a Full Metal Alchemist game and I wouldn't care about a Super Metroid anime.

As I was playing Hitman Absolution, I thought that it would of been the most bat-shit crazy movies. It would be pure ridiculousness but it would probably take away from it for not being able to sneak around and hear every guards funny conversation.

As a lover of all things sci-fi and fantasy, I'd be pretty happy to see any sort of movie or TV adaptation of Mass Effect, Halo, Deus Ex, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Fallout or any number of other franchises. They may not be great, they may not even be good, but they would exist, which is plenty for me.

@awesomeusername: They allready did a Resident Evil movie. In fact, they've done 5 of them. Anyways though, as far as what I'd want to see as a movie, probrably Bioshock or God of War, and I'd want them both gritty, R-rated but with huge budgets, but that's not likely. I'd also say Assassin's Creed, but asfter how fucking awful AC3's story was, IDK that I'd like to see a movie at this point.

Sleeping Dogs could be a decent TV show.
GTA IV could be a great 3 part movie.
Anime? Well.. I don't like anime. But Saints Row would make a goddamn excellent anime show.

I'd watch a dark souls anime, that'd be pretty awesome actually (make it based on Oscar of Astora before he gets locked in the undead asylum or something)

@Miketakon: deadly premonition would not work unless it was a TV show, imo.

You know what's great about games? You play them. The best game stories are good because they are contained in games. People saying something like Mass Effect are missing the whole point of Mass Effect. You choose how the story progresses in that game. It's not like it is an amazing or revolutionary sci-fi universe. It is fine but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. Mass Effect is special because it is interactive. That goes for most games. There is a reason there have been no good game to movie adaptations. Game stories are designed to be played. It's the playing that makes them special. Very few games have interesting or unique worlds once you take out the gameplay. Bioshock has a super interesting premise, but the crux of the story hinges on you playing the game and making choices (and being tricked into making choices). A game should stay as a game. A movie should stay as a movie.

Have the SyFy channel do a Persona TV series. Not an adaptation of Persona 4, 3, or any of them, just take the concept of the Persona series (new person in a town, social links, I am though, etc) and adapt it into a whole new setting with whole new characters. Only character from the games who will show up is Igor in the first episode, he pops up, goes "Hey, Social Links, 0, Infinite, Contract, Persona, enjoy" and then a whole new adventure begins.

Movie: None. I did have one in mind but since the creators want to screw it up I decided not to say.

TV Show: Alan Wake. I've never played it but I've watched gameplay footage. It would make a nice mystery/horror TV show.

Cartoon: God of War. I put cartoon because I use the words cartoon, anime and animation synonymously. Plus it doesn't have to be drawn in an anime style to bloody or violent or to show off cleavage/boobage.

Bioshock for the movie, I think the story is short enough to fill into a movie.

Hitman for the series, that would be awesome would it not? Every episode is a hit.

Video game anime is always awful, so nothing there.

For a TV show... hmmmm... Saints Row? Or maybe Skyrim/Fallout.

For a movie, I'd love a good Halo movie. That ignores everything after Halo 3. Something that focuses on just before and the early events of the war against the Covenant.

Disagree. The actual impact you have on the story of Mass Effect is nil. Yes, you can paint some of the broader strokes (like determining the existence of an entire species), but the actual moment-to-moment storytelling is going to hit almost the exact same beats regardless of what you do as a player. My brain doesn't shut-off when characters are talking amongst themselves independent of my influence. I enjoy listening to what Garrus has to say because he is well written and interesting. I enjoy the incidental moments of stumbling upon two crew members having their own discussion. The confrontation between Liara and Javik on Thessia is one of the most powerful scenes in the entire series, and it happens completely free of Shepard's input.

OT:

Movie (Trilogy) - Final Fantasy Tactics / Suikoden

TV Series - Mass Effect / Ace Attorney

Anime (OVA) - Asura's Wrath / DmC

An EYE Divine Cybermancy anime movie would be prettty good. I don't think there are any games I'd really want to see in a TV series format, live-action or otherwise. Fallout could be interesting I guess.

Anime: I second the guy who said Saints Row. I'm thinking Studio Gainax should produce it. Think Saints Row, with some FLCL layered on top, a sprinkling of Gurren Lagann for some truly ridiculous action scenes, and then a little more Saints Row to top it off. It could be glorious.

TV Show: I really enjoyed Halo: Forward Unto Dawn, and I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of a full-length TV series set in that universe. Failing that... A Fallout series could be pretty good, if done right.

Movie: Pretty much all the games I'd want turned into movies, I'd rather have turned into TV series, or at least miniseries, so I'll leave this blank.

I'm really looking forward to the movie versions of Assassins Creed, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, that are coming out in the near future.

Also, I would love to see a movie version of Knights of the old Republic, Mass Effect, and maybe even a Batman movie that's based off on Batman Arkham Asylum. That game, and it's sequel, Arkham City, are the best Superhero games I've ever played.
