I'm making this as an attempt to get something in front of the Bomb crew that they can find useful.
Please TRY to keep your answers simple. I don't see a way to make a Poll so this will have to do.
Excessive swearing on the Bombcast:
YES or NO
A little less F-bomb on the Bomb?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
No. I don't see why it is deemed so offensive and really, surely censoring them is going against what the original idea of GinatBomb is.
I hear you believe me, when I'm wasted it's def R rated. I guess I'm just wondering if it'll hurt the Bomb in the long run. Fact is I want to see this site succeed. I want it around for a long long time. Imagine parents seeing or hearing their kids listening to the cast and being all "whelp time to block that site". Maybe not an issue, but when you look at the bigger sites, it ain't there. And I'm not saying NEVER swear, just...well reign it in a little. Then again maybe this is one of those things where these guys are just taking a stand and really getting behind swearing in general, in which case that's cool. I just think for the site to really blow up....blah blah blah I'm repeating myself.
My vote is Less swearing. Not none! Not, forget the whole freedom of speech thing. Just LESS. Like, same with that vid of the dudes working on Legendary, totally ruined the vid for me that the one guys is half-hiding his bottle of whatever from the camera. It's just not PRO.
Long live the Bomb!
I think the excessive swearing on the latest podcast is due to the context. When you take away all the professional stuff, it's just a bunch of friends socialising and knocking back some drinks. Language tends to fly around a bit on occasions like that. I don't think it's going to be a regular concern.

"I dont think kids listen to podcasts anyways. Too boring for children I would suppose."Also a good point.

Sorry guys I guess this is more of a debate thread now. (shoulda seen that coming) I love a good debate though.

I guess my thing is that I'd like to see more focused work.
I mean these guys are doing a job. It's their Job. I come here to hear about games from awesome dudes who I can identify with. And I feel that with some of the more recent video/podcast posts, I'm getting a lesser quality of workmanship.
I can appreciate buddies and old colleagues throwing a few back and having fun. I guess I just don't want to listen to their podcast on their gamesite about it. I mean Rich Gallup was on there and how much did we hear from him? Basically he was saying, "guys...can we focus here?" I mean the last 2 mins of the cast were the only things that I found useful at all. Aside from the fact that I did indeed get pumped to go to PAX next year. Speaking of which I gotta go get my uhaul truck so I can move to seattle tonight! Talk to you fools lata!
D.
I don't really think they're trying to make it exclusively a family show. There was alot of it on the pax cast but at the same time that's what happens when most people are around a group of friends.
No.
Pedantry: if you're OK with the level of swearing, it isn't excessive. Excessive means too much.
Anyway, I think it's more about the delivery than the quantity. If it seems like people are swearing just to swear, it's pretty immature and generally makes it sound less natural, dampening the effect somewhat anyway. If it's delivered naturally and with conviction, however, I have no problem with it. It can add punchy emphasis to things. Swearing due to drunkenness can fall into either category, but I'd say it tends to lean toward the former. I found the PAX Bombcast to be a bit much. It didn't ruin it, but it did make things a little awkward. If nothing else, the fact that Rich didn't seem comfortable with it (or at least didn't approve) had an effect. You don't want to be alienating members of the group or spoiling the communal vibe.
Of course, I'm overblowing the actual effect. It's for illustrative purposes!
Swearing is definitely hilarious and cool, though, and will make people like and respect you. It will also give you bigger muscles and a higher-paying job.
The other threads addressed this topic as well. I think most of you are right actually, after reading the other responses, I guess it is just a podcast, not a review. You'd never catch any of these guys doing a review and saying F this or F that or even dissin the folks who made a game. Even if my tastes are just a little diff, doesn't mean GB is unprofessional. They just aren't MY favorite version on the podcast.
Thanks for the replies tho dudes.
But yeah, too much swearing makes it seem unprofessional to the point that it could be a detriment to their credibility in the future. Unless they want to be the Jay of videogame websites, which is one way to go!"Who seriously comes to this site seeking professionalism? Most people come here because they love the hell out of the crew.
It doesn't sound natural when Ryan does it; it's like when an 8 year-old tries to sound cool by saying fuck all the time. That said, I'm not a mormon, and can therefore tolerate lewd language. I just think Ryan should do it less.
"What the Fuck do you think youre doing?!" I couldn't think of a better way for ryan to start the PAXcast.
Swearing can be hilarious or embarrasingly ridiculous. I think its a fine line between the two, but the Giantbomb crew always seem to be in the appropriately hilarious side.
I really don't think it matters. Swearing is just a part of everyone's (well, most peoples) vocabulary, and should be used just like you would use other words. It's not as if the guys are swearing "because it's cool" or whatever, they're not 9-year-olds who have just learnt all the naughty words. At the end of the day, if it's a site targeted at a mature audience, which this is, then who cares.
What is excessive? At work there are fucks, shits and the dreaded c-word spread across like butter, I really don't care if I'm listening to something on my iPod and they drop a few swears. Swearing is so common in my personal, social and work circles that I couldn't care less if a podcast acts natural. I'd rather they act natural than think about their wording; that's how we get Kane & Lynch exclusive reviews.
"How about this: who cares?"YES! Exactly, it's just another word people, lets not star threads about every single one we don't like.

FOCUSED?!?!?! He spent the entire time in fucking chat with the 38 studios guys, he was totally distracted the whole time.
I swear a lot myself so I really don't care. In fact I like them swearing because they act more them self rather than being all PG13 like they use to be in the Hotspot.
There was a lot of it this episode but meh, don't care.
I could see it being a bit much if it was like that for every episode but it's not.
