Fallujah is a city in Iraq (also known as Mesopotamia) that was founded by the Sassanid Persian Empire in the 3rd century. It was later ruled by the Ottoman Empire up until the early 20th century, when it came under British control for a brief period, before becoming part of the independent Republic of Iraq.
During the Iraq War around 2003-2004, the city was devastated by US-led Coalition forces, which damaged or destroyed more than half of the buildings and used nuclear depleted uranium which resulted in a fallout with defective birth rates comparable to that of Hiroshima.
