    Earth 2025 was a browser based text based and turn based sci-fi strategy game, created by Mehul Patel, who also created the similar fantasy game Utopia. The game was online from 1996 to 2009, hosted by swirve.com.

    Swirve's Earth 2025 and Utopia were among the first browser based strategy games. Earth was launched in 1996 and gathered a large player base by the end of the 90's. Earth was undertaken as a project for Mehul to learn how to program web based applications rather than BBS games.

    The game was created by Mehul Patel and fashioned after his brother Amit Patel's BBS game Solar Realms Elite. Originally released as a BBS titled Barren Realms Elite it was later adapted into it's better known form of Earth 2025.

    Swirve won 2 webby awards in 2002 and 2003 due in part to Earth and Europa's popularity.

    Just a week after the servers closed down in 2009, a fan made project, Earth Empires was launched, incorporating the game mechanics and server structure from Earth 2025.
