Kind of a meaningless gesture once you've already bought and played the game. This is why I get frustrated with the fucking bullshit "release it today and fix it some other time" mentality.
Dungeon Siege III
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Jun 17, 2011
Dungeon Siege 3 is the third instalment of the Dungeon Siege franchise. It tells the tale of the fallen 10th Legion taking back the Kingdom of Ehb from the popular Azunite champion Jeyne Kassynder.
Obsidian Aims to Fix Dungeon Siege III's PC Controls
If a game has issues with something as basic and foundation focused as simple controls then it shouldn't be released until it works properly.
If they can spend as much as they did on advertising Dungeon Siege III why can't they afford to make sure the controls for the game are good for every platform it's released on?
I mean it just makes them look sloppy and lazy, I have the image in my head of some head developer guy somewhere in Obsidian's HQ getting near to the last hurdle and simply sitting back with the plan to patch it after release already in the works, also with the plan to act like they hadn't realised that it was as bad as it turned out, but also admitting that they thought it could have been better had they done some extra work.
Obsidian Entertainment keeps supporting their unwanted reputation of releasing games that should've been in development for at least 10 more months. Who among us really believes that Alpha Protocol was in finished condition when they released it?
Who among us believes that with a few more months Fallout: New Vegas would have been way, way less buggy?
Who among us has actually played an Obsidian Entertainment game out of the door that wasn't a buggy mess and had chunks of it missing?
I could go on but I think I'm pushing it, most of you are quick-witted individuals and get the point. I just think they're going to have to push for longer dev times when they're signing up for doing sequels or branch-off-games to other main games. Like KOTOR II or Fallout: New Vegas.
Seems to me that controls would be one of those things that you would want to get right above all else. Eh, maybe that's just me.
I know it's not nice to wish bankruptcy on a developer, what with a shitload of studios getting shuttered these past few years.
But goddamn it, someone needs to pull the plug on Obsidian.
Obsidian should switch to the downloadable market like Double Fine. They've proven time and time again since their inception that they can't handle 'big' game development.
consoles didn't ruin this game, obsidian did. the original is still the best so i had very little hope for this one. although had they not nerf'd the whole co-op experience this would probably have been a fun co-op game to play. and if you have a gamepad the game plays fine.
of course one torchlight 2 comes out pretty much every dungeon crawler is screwed.
Even if Obsidian came up with a cure for cancer the same people would be raging on forums.
The controls are fine, just takes some time to learn and adapt to them. But heaven forbid, if someone actually tries to make something different and doesn't copy the controlling scheme from the 125 Diablo/WoW clones.
The only thing missing is the option to bind your keys and yes, there have been other developers/publishers that have left that option out of their game, and some of them never even bothered to patch it in later.
The game itself if one of the best action rpgs I've played and so far the best game of 2011 (until Arkham City comes out).
I do, considering that I did not encounter any bugs at all in 3 playthroughts of the game.Who among us really believes that Alpha Protocol was in finished condition when they released it?

- Gamebryo is a mess of an engine.
- Even after many significant patches there are still issues with F:NV
By the way DS3 is quite polished and bugfree.Who among us has actually played an Obsidian Entertainment game out of the door that wasn't a buggy mess and had chunks of it missing?
It has quite a few issues, like bad PC controlls and lack of content overall, but it is actually not a buggy mess.

Multiplayer functions badly at it's core, from conseption stage forward.:( I saw the headline "Obsidian Aims to Fix Dungeon Siege..." and immediately assumed they were working on correcting the multiplayer situation. I'll still hold out hope, but it's a long shot.
They would need to completely overhaul how it works, which isn't going to happen.
So I would stop hoping. :(

You will find that even people who like the game such as myself agree to the fact that controlls are terrible with K+M. It's not an issue of copying Diablo. It's when you first start the game and A D keys fucking rotate you while W S keys move you, that's fucked up, inability to loot or interact with objects by mouse, etc. Normally this would not be an issue if you could rebind the keys, but you can't.The controls are fine, just takes some time to learn and adapt to them.
Thus the 2 problems multiply each other and from 2 small issues become one big issue.
Most PC players who are enjoying the game are pretty much just plugging in a gamepad and playing it like that, because the game controlls perfectly with it.
I thought of something really clever to say to this, but decided Obsidian weren't worth the breath.
They are a terrible company, they make terrible games and people are still surprised when a game they make sucks. It's like watching people think that the next sonic game will be good each and every time.
I'm done with them for good.
I know it's not nice to wish bankruptcy on a developer, what with a shitload of studios getting shuttered these past few years. But goddamn it, someone needs to pull the plug on Obsidian.Publishers just need to stop giving them projects right?
They could only make dungeon siege 3 a dissapointment because square-eenix let them.
Obsidion has a large enough profile everyone could expect this to happen, for sqeenix not to keep a good cuality-control in check is equally to blame.
Quality development is afcourse more expensive and the graphics in this are admittedly nice and fit the story wich is hard to do when your game is basicly one giant linear road.
of course one torchlight 2 comes out pretty much every dungeon crawler is screwed. That is until Diablo III comes out, then you can add Torchlight 2 on top of the "screwed dungeon crawler" stack :>
After all that's the reason why the churn out the Torchlight titles so quickly. A lot companies take advantage of the Diablo III hype and try to put out some Hack'n'Slash titles because the interest is very high in this genre thanks to D3's announcement.
The game was ruined when square enix got a hold of it and turned the series into a console noob game and ruined it for life so nobody gives a fuck what they do to it anymore.
The series is now a Horrible game series for console noobs and has nothing to do with the old PC games end of subject and the game is not worth playing.
Obsidian goes through this cycle where the quality of games alternates between good and bad per each release. I think the main problem here is that the developer has been involved in multiple projects for a while that the obvious issues such as proper PC control profile were overlooked. Aside from the pending New Vegas DLCs and DSIII, they probably would have been working on or at least involved in two other projects. They seem to be chasing multiple goals and probably would never achieve any of them in the end, which is what ultimately led to DSIII not being all it could've been even with what little recognition it had given its legacy.
As far as I can see, Obsidian's mode of developing products revolves around making something that is barely adequate in playability, undoubtedly another one of their cost-saving measures honed for years from dealing with publishers, then expend as little resource as possible to fulfill support obligations when complaints and bugs inevitably arise, to mitigate resulting bad press to a manageable level. Other than the missing PC controls, the downright barebones and haphazard multiplayer mode comes to mind as well. New Vegas for them has been a happy aberration for them due to sales, and I think it gave them the wrong idea that if console platform is able to adopt some PC conventions and profiles and make them work, reverse would hold as well.
