    Overview

Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku is a 2D sci-fi fantasy action-RPG developed by Webfoot and published by Infogrames for the Game Boy Advance in North America (on May 14, 2002) and Europe (on October 4, 2002).

Based on the Dragon Ball manga and anime series, The Legacy of Goku follows an adaptation of the two earliest Dragon Ball Z storylines (the "Saiyan Saga" and the "Namek Saga"). Players control the eponymous hero as he makes his way to rescue his son Gohan from the Saiyan invader Raditz, travels the afterlife to train with King Kai, makes his way to fight Saiyan invaders Nappa and Vegeta, and travels to the planet Namek to gather the planet's Dragon Balls (while fighting the forces of universal emperor Frieza). The game includes various RPG-style sub-quests detracting from the main story (such as Goku gathering flowers for a villager and foiling a bank robbery).

It is the first adaptation of the series to be developed by an overseas studio and is the first game to not receive a release in the series' native Japan. The game later received two sequels: Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II and Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury, all of which make up the entire Dragon Ball Z arc.
