Dog
Concept »
A dog is an animal, of which there are estimated to be 400 million of in the world. Said to be man's best friend, they naturally appear in many video games.
The Best dog in games?
These are all non-anthropomorphic dogs so KK Slider and Sam are out. Hopefully I'm not leaving anyone that fits out.
My vote goes to Boney because the game get so pretty adorable/awesome/ hilarious moments out of him He's a pretty cool party member, also he dresses up as a dude. Like all animals in the Mother games he can talk. It's surprising how entertaining he can be. Also he doesn't wimp out like King.
I realise it's not part of the poll, but I can't, in good conscience, vote for any dog but the one in Fable II. Such an incredibly understated, well-implemented companion. When I reached the end of the game's story and was faced with that choice, I opted for the Needs of the Few, simply because I couldn't imagine playing through the end-game content without my canine compadré. That fact alone is reason enough, I think.

Of the ones you gave me it's either Amaterasu or Interceptor, but I really wanted to say DOG from HL2...
I think I might go for Ammy.
Missile and Dogmeat are also pretty awesome, though I never want to hear the Mabari be called Barkspawn ever again.
Yes, but DOG isn't actually a dog, if I made a poll that was "Best robot companions" I'm sure he'd be on there.
Sorry, Barkspawn was the most canon name I could think of.

Ahh, Yes. I tried to play Fable 2, 5 times and each time it froze around the part where you shoot bugs in some guys house/store/warehouse, I've blocked that game from memory.

I thought about it, but you know, he doesn't have fur or a wet nose. But he does play fetch and is loyal, I was torn.
Alright then. Since I'm only familiar with about 50% of these, and since Konomaru is the least appealing Persona companion ever, the Mabari Warhound is the worst companion in Dragon Age outside of Zevran, Dogmeat is a novelty, and Poochie left for his home planet, that leaves me with Amaterasu. Though Repede is cool too, if a tad useless (except for his item usage abilities).

I was shocked to find after I picked Amateratsu that she was ahead. I wasn't aware many people were even aware of that awesome game.
We are on a pretty well versed gaming site, so a lot of people here know of Amateratsu - who deserved to win if it weren't for Wappy Dog... Wait?
What the...?! Where is Wappy Dog? I vote for Wappy Dog! (for president)
@joshth: I really need to play that game.
@AndrewB: I don't know Mitsuru was never that useful to me, Chie too but at least she is a fun character.
Though I've never used him my friends say the Marbari warhound was a tank. And after the Broken steel expansion of Fallout 3 Dogmeat was pretty much invincible did you ever have Dogmeat during broken steel?

How is Missile not killing it in this poll?
because people didn't play ghost trick
these people are bad people clearly
But it's MISSILE! (screen shakes and dog barks...)
BARKING!
Also, where is Sam?
GHOST TRICK SPOILERS Hmm let's see. Which dog was murdered trying to protect his mistress, who then, as a ghost, tracked down the culprit to a sinking submarine only to realize that he would not be able to save her, so he then traveled 10 years BACK IN FUCKING TIME, waiting all the while for that fateful night to come around again so that he could guide the player character's actions to finally save his beloved mistress?? Missile, that's who.

Mitsuru was practically always in my party, especially in P3P where I didn't have to worry about her trying to charm uncharmable enemies. Chie... agreed, but you can't *not* use Chie, plus God Hand.
I literally never tried to use the Mabari Warhound (mine was named Hex or Dog), after gaining enough party members. There's only one "funny" aspect to using him, and that's for his territorial marking sidequest (which I don't find funny).
And Dogmeat was useful as he didn't count towards you companion limit, but I didn't want him to die, so I never used him. I have no idea what you're talking about with Broken Steel. By that point, I was back to soloing the game anyway.
@MooseyMcMan: Crap! You're right. I can't take my vote back!
I gotta go with Rush. That dog's put up with too much shit over the course of all of the mega man games that he's been in. He had to let Mega Man jump on him, ride him, stand on him, he has to turn into freaking armor for him... He does it all over the course of the Mega Man games and he sticks around. He could leave, go live a better life somewhere, but no! He sticks it out with his old buddy Mega Man!
