Background
Defalt's true background is largely unknown, but what is true is that he worked for Dot ConneXion (a high-tech art space in Chicago's Ambrose Theater) as a DJ. When Raymond Kenney caused the Northeast Blackout of 2003, the event led to the death of his brother, who was able to escape suicide watch at his mental hospital and hang himself while the power was out. Defalt decided to become an informant for Blume in order to find Ray and get his revenge on him.
Defalt also attempted to join DedSec but the group refused as they believed that Defalt drew too much unwanted attention to himself with his insistence on maintaining the Defalt persona that could be easily tracked, and he balked when they demanded he choose a more anonymous look. Defalt maintained a grudge against DedSec ever since then, helping Blume and other Fixers in Chicago hunt them down.
Chicago
During the events of Watch Dogs, Defalt uses his hacking skills to locate and remotely break into The Bunker, deleting valuable data from its servers after taking some of it for himself. Aiden eventually tracks Defalt down to his DJ gig at Dot ConneXion, chasing him down and taking back the stolen data from him before either killing him or forcing him to flee Chicago, depending on the player's actions.
In the Bad Blood DLC, it is confirmed that Defalt survived Aiden's attack on him and stuck around in Chicago, and the man in the Defalt mask that Aiden dealt with was actually a decoy so the real Defalt could slip away in the confusion. T-Bone later finds out that Defalt's brother was one of the victims who died in the 2003 blackout. After T-Bone tracks down Defalt's location, he soon realizes that Defalt set him up in a trap to have the victims' surviving families vote on whether or not T-Bone deserves to die for what he did. T-Bone makes an impassioned plea for forgiveness that sways some, but not all, of the familes. The majority vote to have him killed, and Defalt begins releasing toxic gas into his room, but T-Bone uses his hacking skills to redirect the gas into Defalt's room, killing him instead.
Legacy
In Watch Dogs 2 a group of self-proclaimed anarchist hackers and artists calling themselves the "Rodentia Academy" make an appearance with similar mouse masks to Defalt, though Defalt himself does not appear.
In Watch Dogs: Legion, there are a few Easter Eggs that mention Defalt, including an underground hideout with some messages and his mask hidden inside, implying that Defalt somehow survived, or that there is a copycat who is carrying on his work.
