    Dead Rising 2

Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Sep 02, 2010

Dead Rising 2 is a third-person action-adventure survival horror game that takes place five years after the end of the original Dead Rising, moving its zombie apocalypse setting into the glamorous Fortune City.

So, the framerate is awful for every 360, not just mine, right?

Maybe it's because I played through Dead Rising 1 immediately before this and play a lot of SSF4 at 60fps but man the framerate on this game is killing me. It feels like it dips to 15 or so at times, when you're just looking into a zombie crowd outside.

I've got a newish 250gb slim so it's very unlikely that it's my hardware, but just wanted to get a sense of how everyone else feels about it.

Personally this shit is bad. My laptop won't run the PC version either. I'll deal, but it's annoying to see these problems coming up in a lot of new release games lately. Reach being the other prominent one.

no not for me, I have mine installed and it doesn't have too many frame rate problems unless I get like a million zombies around.

It sounds like your Xbox is dying regardless, chief. I played through the game and the only time I ever had framerate problems was during cut-scenes near the end of the game.

It's not halo reach bad, but it's not smooth.

Def not smooth. definetly not an xbox dying. Maybe i'll try the game out on my old arcade unit and see if it runs the same.

Do you play PC games a lot? Compared to a PC game the framerate is absolutely horrible. The PC version obviously has an uncapped framerate and looks great but I'm afraid the framerate in the Xbox360 version of DR2 is just pretty standard. And that standard is bad.

Yeah like I said it may just be a problem of comparison with playing a lot of fighting games running at 60fps, and the original dead rising was much smoother as well.

Hmmm. Maybe. I'm not sure though, I feel like DR1 had a lot more blur going on which could mask some choppiness of animation. It's probbably a bit slower though, but DR2 does have better graphics and more zombies which might explain the decrease. It any case yeah, it is really noticeable. It's got to be below 30fps a lot of the time.

Never noticed anything, but I'm the worst judge. I must be conditioned to ignore framerate issues. Seriously I never notice unless it's really bad. Like 5 FPS bad. I can remember a couple of Quick Looks where the guys mentioned the bad framerate they were seeing, but it looked okay to me.  Maybe I'm just easily pleased.

@mason:  It's hard to notice how not smooth console game framerates are until you play a super slick game, or a PC game with good hardware. The animation is so smooth compared to the Xbox version. Not as a dropping frames thing, just overall framerate.

I once saw a stream with a guy playing the 360 version. I counted about 30 seconds on average for loading times. It takes about 5 to 10 seconds on my brothers rig so the difference is quite large. The FPS wasn't that great either and there was a bit of slow down a lot so maybe it's the aging hardware I guess?

I was playing this game in a Kiosk in EB Games 2 days ago and the framerate was excellent.

Definitely has some nasty drops.  Some cutscenes drop below 10FPS (and they're not even the detailed cutscenes).  A few outdoor scenarios drop below 20fps in gameplay...

I would have bought the PC version had I known how the versions would turn out a while ago.  It's somewhat disappointing.

The 360 version is locked at 30 FPS with vSynch. Tho it can drop in the heavy zombie areas. Just be happy you didn't pick it up for PS3 like i did, cause talk about bad frame rate, and theres tear-lines left and right.

There are noticeable framerate drops in areas with large amounts of zombies (mainly outside), but I'm not bothered by them.

The only really bad framerate that get to me are the ones in a few of the cutscenes. Whenever there's fire nearby in the background, say hello to 5fps.

Yeah it is mostly outdoors areas or when you're swinging an axe through a crowd. Some of that might be intentional hitstun type god of war effects too.

@pornstorestiffi: I play on PS3 and the fps is fine. I have no tears and very rarely can I notice any sort of drop. Of course there is the fresh load point stutter that lasts about half a second after a load screen and the occasional tons of zombies drop but is fine after it renders them all and is fine when I kill them all.

Occam's Razor; or maybe you simply don't notice the things he is referring to. All PS3's are running on the same spec hardware and all game discs are the same. Screen tearing and low framerate of multiplat games on PS3 is also a common issue.

Then the fact I have not noticed it says how much of an issue it is. And yes I do know what screen tearing is, I played Darksiders on the 360 before the patch.

My elite that was purchased just before Christmas experiences low fram rate at spots, but after two hours I got over it. But still, if removing 10% of the zombies would have helped the game then the Blue Castle guys has to rethink their priorities for the next game.
OFF TOPIC: Also, I wish they had more ... useful weapons. Like Jeff I am mostly using the spiked bat, or I mix it up with quicker weapons for boss fights, like the spear for instance.

Maybe so. My PS3 has been through a lot. But I have noticed that my roomie's slim has some tears and frame rate drops. Not sure if it is something that the slims are plagued with and possibly your friends fat PS3 might be on it's last leg to yellow light... My only complaint with the game graphically is sometimes I can catch a bit of pop in from changing from distant resolution to close res.

It's kinda ironic considering all the money Microsoft spent on getting all the DLC for this title, and yet the Xbox version seems to be the one with most "issues".  The framerate is chunky and the graphics is not as good as the PS3 version, which makes it even funnier considering it always uses to be the PS3 version that lacks in that department.

Like Vorbis I really haven't noticed anything serious, only a very limited amount of low framerate, but that only happened two or three times and that was only when there were especially many zombies on the screen at the same time. But other than that it runs really smooth on my PS3. Maybe I'm just lucky ;)

It is the same for me. I have had maybe 3 screen tears, all minor. No real frame rate drops, I know, because I was amazed by the fact. I have had some issues with the shadows disappearing.
