I was wondering if anyone has put much time into this weapon? I'm currently using the uchigatana +3 and im wanting to go for a dex/int build. But the raiper has a pretty good moveset that fits my style and scales pretty good with int. is it worth dropping the uchi and just going for a pure int build with this weapon??? Or is that not viable for late game pve?

If you like the weapon, use it. Pretty much anything is viable in these games.

They use different upgrade materials, so you could easily keep reinforcing your uchigatana while leveling your rapier. Then you can just pick whichever is better for you, or switch between them based on the situation.

If you like it sure, rapiers are always good but I doubt it can out-damage the uchi. Very few enemies are more susceptible to magic damage over physical. I have a sorceress that is on the final boss now, haven't beaten it yet but with 60 int and 18 dex, Sharp infusion on my uchi does more damage in general than any magic infusion. She's just hilariously weak compared to my pure physical sword n' board character.

As long as it doesn't use the same upgrade material as your other weapon then feel free to upgrade it and use both as needed. I currently run around with one that I'm upgrading with titanite shards and another I'm upgrading with titanite scales. Doesn't overlap at all really and there are always plenty of souls to use on them. Uchi will probably be stronger overall though.

@marz: Do you need to get the kill with the rapier for item discovery to count? Or can you just attack with your main weapon whilst still having the rapier equipped? Having it equipped doesn't seem to change the numbers on the stat screen so I'm confused. The Shield of Want can be placed on your back and it still gives your the +souls buff though.

@probablytuna: just need to have it equipped for the item discovery to work. It does increase the item discovery stat for me, when i'm two handing another weapon.

Use the Estoc.

I switched to a Crystal Estoc at some point because it's easier to upgrade and outdamaged the Sage's rapier by A LOT.

Use both. Rapier type weapons are great for exploring and corridor fighting, but for the last boss I fought I felt like I wanted a slashing moveset so levelled one of the katanas.

Moveset and attack speed are things to keep in mind!

Fist weapons for lyfe!

It gives 75 item discovery. That's good.

Beyond that, the general rule I apply to Dark Souls for anyone is "if you like it, use it."
