A game mechanic popularized by Epic's Gears of War. The player while in cover shoots "blindly" at the enemy. Used in conjunction with suppressive fire to stop the opposing team in their tracks.
Chest-High Walls appear regularly in video games, particularly in third-person-shooters with cover mechanics.
The act of bending at the knees from a standing position. Crouching is an essential part of many shooters and platformers, and can be used by players to stay behind cover or avoid incoming projectiles.
Destructible cover is an increasingly popular feature in shooters, even those without cover systems. It is used to encourage creative tactics both in single-player and multiplayer.
A destructible environment means the player has the ability to destroy his/her surroundings. This allows players to use the environment to their advantage.
A concept where players have the ability to conceal themselves from enemies. Common hiding places in games include closets, lockers, or even just crouching in the shadows.
The ability of a player to interact with items or geometry in the game world, whether for story or gameplay reasons or simply for immersion.
Sliding on one's knees. Can be used to slide under objects. A variant of this is power sliding, which can be used to tactically escape a sticky situation, dodge enemy fire, or decrease range effectively to the enemy.
Leaning is a concept that allows a character to angle their body. Often used to look around corners. Primarily found in First Person Shooters.
Persistent bullet holes allows players to shoot holes into walls without them disappearing right away. This feature added realism to first person shooters, as well as the ability to draw smiley faces.
From shields to car doors to entire vehicles, and even people, portable cover puts a unique twist on the cover systems commonly found in modern action games.
"Roadie Running" is a game mechanic similar to sprinting. Unlike sprinting, roadie running differentiates itself by greatly reducing the player's maneuverability, vision, and ability to use weapons.
Using some form of rocket to manoeuvre yourself into a transitional kick to an enemy.
Rockstar's proprietary game engine.
War is a series of organized conflicts carried on by force of arms between two or more nations or groups. Whether it never changes or has already changed is up for debate.
