Gentlemen (and Ladies),
I am disappointed that in almost every game that contains cocaine, they use it in an inefficient way.
I want a game that showcases the highs and lows of doing cocaine. I know it's a lot like weed and a lot of people have tried it, but the media tends to spin it around in their own sick fantasy. They could easily make a game about a druggie or even a businessman who does cocaine to get high and then see his downfall from what happens when he starts depending on it.
The only time I saw a real use of cocaine was in Heavy Rain but that was just a 2 minute scene, I was dying to know what drives that kid and whatnot.
Oh well, anyone got good ideas on how cocaine can be successfully used in games?
Cocaine
An illegal drug, often seen in games depicting criminal acts. Often referenced without actual graphic descriptions of its use.
More Games Need A Realistic View of Cocaine

Why do I feel like I read this thread a while ago? Like seriously, feeling some mad deja vu up in here.
" Why do I feel like I read this thread a while ago? Like seriously, feeling some mad deja vu up in here. "Too much blow?

:P
I know it's a lot like weedExcept 10x as dangerous?
I don't think an accurate depiction of cocaine in a game is necessary. Just turn on COPS.
" @natetodamax: Cocaine in small dosage is perfectly safe, and a lot of countries allow people to use it for their own use. Doctors use to help patients in pain. They could easily make it as a health booster or something inside a game from a small hit. "Why use cocaine for a health pack? Why not use a health pack. Having your FPS shooter character run over some cocaine and have their health bar go up isn't a accurate representation of cocaine
" @KaosAngel said:Not to mention the fact that even if they do this there's definitely going to be some people objecting against it saying that'll encourage drug use among children and so fourth." @natetodamax: Cocaine in small dosage is perfectly safe, and a lot of countries allow people to use it for their own use. I've seen drug usage portrayed very poorly before. Mind you, it had its ups and downs, like you said, but... I doubt it was very accurate.
Plus, I don't think can be "successfully" implemented as a realistic gameplay mechanic. Unless they bring back the D.A.R.E. program, and bring some edutainment with it.
" yeah a video game that uses cocaine as a health boost, that wouldn´t create any problems at all. "Yeah cause Dead Rising doesn't let you chug down alcohol to restore your health. A gritty crime game in which the protagonist uses a small hit to heighten his senses would make perfect sense. You start to depend on it, and you'll have a bad trip and die.
I think you should just stick to being overly excited about GT5 and wanting to buy your boring car in it. It's what you're good at.
I took a neurology class on drugs last quarter. Cocaine is a schedule II so doctors do use it, to treat bleeding and as a local anesthetic. Maybe you could use it in a Fallout kinda game where you get hit and have to "treat" the wound with something.
" First hand experience would certainly tighten up the development cycle. "Just ask Atari back in the day. Hot tubs, too, those would help.
I can see the point, but don't leave it as 'cocaine'. Take it to just drugs. But leave it optional. That makes the game a lot more mature than forcing you to do drugs. Then, don't shove the consequences in people's faces, let them discover it after taking it a few times and OD'ing.

Hell, Heavy Rain had the FBI Agent hooked on a fake drug...it's okay to have fake drugs but "oh noes...can't talk about cocaine".
Why the fuck would I need to know how cocaine works? I'm 17, I have many more important things to study then how cocaine should be effectively used in video-games. This thread is fucking retarded KaosAngel, you have too much free time on your hands if this keeps you up at night." @CrazedMaverick: See perfect sense. Too many people in this thread have no idea how cocaine really works and it's kinda sad. "
Oh my god, imagine what Activision would do with Guitar Hero and COD. You think yearly releases are bad...." First hand experience would certainly tighten up the development cycle. "
I think Duke would be man enough to take on a fat rail.

"I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they originally wanted to use real world drugs in Fallout, but obviously some people weren't happy thus they turned the drugs into "Chems" like Jet and Psycho. I could be wrong, but it sort of makes sense to me.

"Your asking "them" to make a game where you play as a business man who uses cocaine too much and has there business go down the drain or for you to use it in a gritty crime game to increase health
Heavy Rain used drugs so damn well, and it's a shame it's the only game I played that did use it in a realistic way.
" @Pie: ...or health modifier. Heavy Rain did it well with the fake drug. You had the FBI Agent hooked on it, and it showed the costs if you kept using it to make the game easier. Heavy Rain used drugs so damn well, and it's a shame it's the only game I played that did use it in a realistic way. "What other games have you played with cocaine in them KaosAngel, or a game that would of suited some cocaine but was lacking in that department?
But heavy Rain tackled it in a serious manner. Using cocaine as a"power up" would be lame." @Romination said:

Cocaine sucks because its never pure, and you know you're a coke head when you don't care what you put up your nose.
You should quit before you get lucky and snort some cut with levamisole.

i really don't think games have matured enough to be able to create an entertaining drama without action sequences that does not become a borderline movie. while i'd love to see some form of "the fall of *insert name here*" drama within a video game, it's probably not going to happen for a while. it'd be pretty sweet if someone got it right, though.
