Chepito is a minor character in the 1998 LucasArts adventure game Grim Fandango. He appears as a short, blueish-green-tinted skeleton wearing a diving suit with no helmet and a lantern that dangles from his back. Chepito is first seen wandering the bottom of the Sea of Lament. Although he was once a ship's crewman, Chepito's faith in seafaring vessels was deeply shaken after his boat sank many years ago. As a result, he refuses to cross the Sea of Lament by ship; instead he has struck out alone to traverse the ocean on foot. Manny and Glottis encounter Chepito after going down with the stern section of Manny's ship, the SS Lola, near the reputed location of "the Pearl," a legendary treasure that rests on the seafloor and glows brightly enough to be seen for miles. Chepito believes that the light emanating from the Pearl is actually the moon, which he keeps on his left in a vain attempt to maintain navigational orientation on his journey to the Ninth Underworld. Unfortunately, this has only led him in an endless circle around the Pearl. When Manny realizes that he and Glottis will be trapped in the ocean's depths without a source of light, he forcibly borrows Chepito's lantern and uses it to carve a path towards the Pearl through demon-infested waters.

Soon after arriving at the Pearl, Chepito is abducted by a monstrous octopus along with several other castaways and taken to Domino's coral-mining facility at the Edge of the World, where lost souls toil to mine glowing coral used as a light source in the Land of the Dead. Somehow Chepito manages to acquire a highly-coveted "Bust-All" jackhammer despite being a relatively new conscript in the mines; this item later proves useful in Manny's quest to rescue Mercedes Colomar and the other lost souls from captivity in the facility.

After reaching the Ninth Underworld Temple, Chepito is last seen walking clockwise in the temple's fountain as a way to recover from years spent travelling the Sea of Lament in counter-clockwise circles. Manny bids him farewell before Chepito finally heads into the tunnel towards the Ninth Underworld, once again on foot.
