I know 2012 is a long way off to wait for BioShock Infinite, but just for fun I was wondering what other settings you guys could see and would like to see a BioShock game take place.  Having gone under the sea and now into the sky personally I'd love to see Irrational Games take on a 50's sci fi moon base or Mars settlement.  Where would you set another BioShock game?

The next logical step does seem to be space.

Underground or in space. If they continue after Infinite, it will probably take place in Space or underground somewhere.

Actually, the desert seems like a good setting for BioShock. The games have been about placing man where man hasn't been before (the bottom of the sea, the sky), so a desert dome thing might be pretty cool. As to when it'd happen, I've no idea.

    Bioshock in space already exists.

I think a game like Bioshock in the desert would be pretty cool. The Shock games are all about being alone and lost, and the desert seems like the perfect place for them to go.

    Seems about right.

As others have stated space has been done (and done well) with System Shock 2. System Shock as well as Bioshock both used tight corridors and claustrophobic spaces, while Infinite seems to just be "what is the opposite of that?" and going with wide open areas and vertigo. Since they have used two different extremes I'm not sure where they would go next. I would hope they would not just resort to the "ice world/lava world" cliche that so many games fall back on to simply add a change in color palette. I think if they created another Bioshock game after Infinite then the reality of what some have stated, that Bioshock has become a small game mechanic (power in the left hand, weapon in the right) and a marketing tool to sell boxes, has come true.

I'd personally like to see Irrational take on something else after Infinite.

@Lydian_Sel: Some sort of twist or mind-game theme, much in the same vein as the little sister's delusional reality in Bioshock 2,  SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content. might be interesting. Create a world that seems logical, like The Village, and turn it on its head at some point during the game. Then again thats sort of what Bioshock is about, leading the player to believe something is true in the world, only to flip it around in some twist.

Underground desert base! So the walls could burst, and you run away lest you be drowned in sand. Which would be the worst. Since you can't see past the sand like you can water or air, the game would be 120% more claustrophobic.

I mean ideally I'd like to see irrational do something else (I'm not holding Infinite against them, personally can't wait, doing two games like that is fine, three might be too much) after infinite, another genre, or at least a new franchise.

I thought space at first then I had a "wait a minute" moment. System Shock was already set in space.

@Lydian_Sel: exactly, it becomes like an M. Night Shyamalan film where you just expect some sort of twist in the film. I think as a gamer, exploring the bizarre has almost become commonplace in games, which I'm not sure can be turned around. I'm glad that you pointed out that the gameplay is great, which in my opinion is true. However in regards to the next backdrop for a Bioshock game I think it's almost unavoidable that they are going to have to make their own spin on a location we've already seen a dozen times before.

Obviously the most logical step is to go to System Shock 2... I mean Bioshock: Beyond.

You guys are dumb, the next game will obviously be set inside an Egyptian pyramid, where you must fight off 10-foot animal-headed big daddies to recover mummified little sisters.

Hopefully nowhere. The first game was overrated as fuck, but at least it was memorable compared to the sequel. As for Infinite, well, I don't care about it.
