Sure, it's been awhile since you've explored Rapture. But the call of ADAM will always bring you back--assuming that 2K Games has you pegged correctly as the type of person who likes defending Little Sisters as they suck the sweet, sweet BioShock 2 nectar out of Splicer corpses.

2K Games and 2K Marin announced Protector Trials this morning, a freshly announced chunk of BioShock 2 DLC that will have you protecting Little Sisters against Rapture's best as they bum rush her for a taste of ADAM. From what I can tell, it looks like 2K Marin removed the reason as to why someone bothered with these sections of the campaign in the first place, and jammed them into a six-level challenge-room romp, each level of which is stripped from "favorite locales" within BioShock 2.

    No Caption Provided
== TEASER ==You want more, right? Good news: 2K is still dangling the story carrot. The next chunk of DLC is being said to "expand the narrative," which sounds great in theory. I only hope it has something to do with that cute jingle from the clown vending machine. Love that thing, man, but who made the song? I must know this. Come to think of it, I will also accept mission DLC based on animatronic Ryan.

Protector's Trials will hit on August 3 across all of BioShock 2's platforms for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Moon Bucks).

I care about Bioshock 2 beacuse I just bought of the Steam sale, but paying to play more of the worst part of the game sounds like a bad idea.

This will probably add nothing to the bioshock universe, no thanks. Bioshock needs more then just gameplay for the sake of gameplay.

<3 BioShock. DLC sounds interesting, glad they're expanding some of the campaign and dipping into the universe a lil more. In other news, I'm getting the impression Brad doesn't like anything.

DLC with narrative? sounds fine, I have no interest in "challenge levels" though. The first game added that and brought my trophy rate for the it beneath 50% >:(

With the game having multiple endings (of which I saw one and decided against seeing the others) I doubt any kind of "expanding of the narrative" would go beyond the ending for this reason. This leaves me with limited interest in whatever the DLC might be.

I wouldn't mind an extra chapter that was mabe little sister defense heavy. I'll even probably get this dlc if there is narrative. But I would rather see 'lost chapters' that were actually first class later additions, just to bring back the fun and intensity. Bioshock 2 rocked, but I'd wish it wasn't a free pass to sell more whatever. Respect your game.

Bioshock 2 was really lame...not surprising that 50 studios couldn't work together to make a great game, and definitely not surprising that they're trying to milk it even more.

This game was fine while it lasted.  Everyone raves about Bioshock 1's story but it was pretty much trash disguised in Ayn Rand philosophical trappings.  Watch the Singularity quick look and you'll see just how antiquated and misguided the "audiolog" storytelling is.  It's just out of place and not very immersive in any of these games.  But overall this game was fine.  Much better than that Assassin's Creed franchise.

I just beat Bioshock 2 five minutes ago (no joke, actually) and while the whole "challenge mode" idea doesn't appeal to me, "expanding the narrative" does.

The biggest problem with all the Bioshock 2 DLC is it's so lazily integrated into the game. The map pack DLC which you can't actually play if someone else joins the room who doesn't have it, combined with the recently released pointless game modes do very little to expand the Bioshock universe. This horde mode DLC just further cheapens what made the original Bioshock so great - retarded mindless violence rather than a true focus on storytelling. Leave this kind of stuff to COD - why not do something exciting with the DLC for this franchise?

I'm becoming more and more disillusioned with the Bioshock franchise. They should've just left it alone after the first one. The second wasn't awful, but it was a pale comparison and wasted potential. The DLC generally looks like hot garbage. It's like making DLC for Mass Effect 2 that adds 25 new planets to scan. Whoop-dee-doo.

What a surprise, more pointless content. If I actually wanted to do the Little Sister protection bit, couldn't I just go play the story again? I say that because I certainly wouldn't want to do a whole bunch of challenge rooms involving it.

Arena DLC is allways dumb. It was dumb in mass effect, it was dumb in Fable 2, it was dumb in borderlands and it will be dumb in Bioshock 2. They aren't fooling anyone when they shit out one of these arena dlc's. People know it is the easiest and lamest type of dlc to make.

I'm playing through this at the moment and I can't say I'd be interested in this DLC.  The protection bits are fun as a novelty but after doing nine or so I think it's a pretty janky part of the game, and not one I look forward to repeating.  In fact, Bioshock 2 has some really annoying changes (weapons layout, removal of some of the helpful audio cues, even worse bullet sponging enemies) from the first one that make me not like it one bit :(

"2K Games and 2K Marin announced Protector Trials this morning, a freshly announced chunk of BioShock 2 DLC ..."

    [emphasis added]

Hey Brad, pro tip: try not to use a word like "announced" twice in the same sentence when it is being applied to the same thing ("Protector Trials" / "BioShock 2 DLC") — it's redundant and awkward. You might want to reword it to something like this:

"2K Games and 2K Marin announced Protector Trials this morning, a new chunk of BioShock 2 DLC ..."

     Just a friendly suggestion. :-)
