The place to talk about any thoughts and opinions you have on the upcoming AC game.

Personally, i'm looking forward to the French Revolution setting. Would love to explore the beautiful city of Paris. Hoping they'll focus more on the Assassins/Templar war, and that they'll take a leap rather than a step forward in game mechanics and features.

    What do you think?

I think the French Revolution could lead to a lot of really great stuff story wise, I'm just more worried that half the missions are going to be "follow this dude" missions. You know, like the other games.

At least in AC IV there were big plants and stuff all over the place to make those missions a little more fun, but, while I'm not an expert on France in that time period, I'm pretty sure there weren't giant tropical plants all over the place to hide in.

@mooseymcman: True, Assassins creed sticks to a specific list of mission archetypes, and doesn't usually branch out of them. In ACIV, out of many naval missions, almost all were follow, sink or board this ship. Land missions were either tailing someone, killing someone, or getting to a location. I'd like to see them create more mission archetypes and keep me guessing and captivated.

So far I think it's really clever how they integrated the guillotine into the logo.

Losing the boats is a big mistake IMO. The best part of AC IV was sailing around the world.

Let me get it out of the way: "If it's set in France it should've been called AC V: White Flag."

The French Revolution is one of the most important and history-shifting events on planet earth, so of course I am excited as FUCK to be a part of that and see the absolute mass madness and hysteria that happened during those days.

However, the last word to me is always reserved for the gameplay. The gameplay will decide whether I like the game. If it will feel fresh and novel the way AC2 and 4 did, I'm all in. If it's gonna be another ACIII that has more story cutscenes about the revolution than actual worthwhile gameplay, then that would make me a sad panda.

Totally! It was all like, "slash!" all in my face, it was great.

I just hope Ubi learns from their mistakes and corrects them with Unity. Ubisoft should also find ways to reward stealth, instead of making it, you know, optional...

Yeah, encouraging stealth is something Ubisoft should really do, and something Ground Zeroes has captured nicely.

You know what's really strange? I know Ubisoft is capable of integrating a stealth system and rewarding it. They did a decent job with the Splinter Cell games, to the point where some actually consider Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory to be one of the best stealth games ever.

"Sacre bleu! Que homme est sans culottes!"

Was my initial comically well researched impression of AC:U. Really how will he kill Templars if he looks like some spilt wine sucking peasant?

Also looking at that abbreviation: Assassin's Creed: University. Make it happen Ubisoft.

@miko1222: Plus the game is really easy.

Which brings me to my next point, AC:U should be either harder or feature difficulty levels.

If it involves Napoleon it would be incredible, if it's just Robespierre et al then "eh." The game's good and fun to play but ship combat is the most fun so that better be like half the game or something. Also AC4 Multiplayer is the worst in the series (and AC3 was the best, amusingly enough) except Wolfpack; and considering it's the best multiplayer on consoles period that's a problem. I guess since it's in France the chance of rehashing the magnificent Castel Gandolfo map remains.

I'll probably play it, at some point, but I'm not especially excited. Hopefully the new consoles will mean that the game performs a little better. I always found the PS3 versions of the series to be lacking in the framerate.

@z3ro180@marcsman You'll want the other Assassin's Creed game (the last gen one) that is set to come out this fall. Supposedly it's more of a direct sequel to Black Flag, has Haytham in a supporting role, and heavily features sailing.

@fredchuckdave It would be interesting if it featured Napoleon. Especially if he was portrayed more as a hero of the Revolution as opposed to the usual evil emperor that he is in everything set during the Napoleonic Wars. Would also be interesting to see how the general population would react to a game in which you aided him.

@creepingdeath0: Napoleon is rarely portrayed as evil in fiction, merely extremely intelligent. As merciless dictators go he's easily amongst the least hazardous to civilians and conversely amongst the most efficient in terms of impact on modern legal systems. Ironically his military systems are shockingly underused; as military thought evolved from the bastards of Napoleon (Clausewitz and Jomini) instead of Napoleon himself and is naturally quite flawed as a result.

But I think it'll be if the protagonist is popular enough Napoleon will be the focus of the next game; he might show up in this briefly. Napoleon is a sacred cow so you couldn't just make him the leader of the Templars or something, he's much more likely to fit the DaVinci (if the game was set in AD 33 this would be Jesus, per bombcast) role. Also Ubisoft is a French company, Napoleon is basically invincible as far as France is concerned; since Napoleon it's been almost nothing but military mediocrities. Granted that's true for the rest of the world as well. Dude has a motherfucking Tomb in Paris.

From what ive seen of the game so far it looks pretty good, like the first time ive thought that about AC since brotherhood. Revelations was one of the worse games ive ever played, 3 wasn't much better and although i can see that Black Flag is a good game it just wasnt what i was looking for in a Creed game, Unity however looks like its returning to its roots in how the assassinations are set up.

HOWEVER The trend of Microtransactions in games i'm already spending 40 to 50 quid on is not cool

@mooseymcman: I have heard that the missions are going to take hints from te first game and revolve around gathering intel on your target, leading up to a mission that will be the assassination mission.

Of course this could end up meaning you follow a guy to hear about where your target will be and then you follow your target to someplace an kill him. Assassins creed has turne the escort quest world on its head

When I hear focus on co-op it means steer clear of this sequel. Which is a shame because I love the idea of an Assassin's Creed set during the French Revolution. That means I have to make sure several friends also bought the game for the PS4, and organize a time to play which is a pain in the ass. Plus based on Dead Space 3 and Resident Evil 5 are any indication adding co-op to the main story is the death knell of a series.

So looking through some reviews, it seems reviewers are not so hot on this one? Interesting to hear they've completely stripped out any modern day stuff, though I think they haven't known what to really do with the modern day stuff since closing the Desmond arc in AC3.

The focus on co-op as much as Brotherhood is a focus on competitive multiplayer. The only different here is that some missions are just meant to be co-op, but those are not part of the main storyline and are custom built for 2 or 4 players. Also the co-op is fine with randoms as long as their gear is decent and they don't suck.

I doubt they care anymore about the banal nature of everything Desmond ever said or did. God what a bland, nothing character that had nothing going for him but being the conduit for Ezio and all the other cool historical stuff.

I'm about 4 hours in and I am absolutely loving this game. Playing on the PC and the game is jaw droppingly beautiful at times. Walking into St. Chapelle with the sunlight beaming through the stained glass windows reminded me of how awestruck I was when I visited it in person. As far as gameplay is concerned its a very good AC game. The best one yet? I don't know yet. I will say it reminds me a lot of 2 and brotherhood, so it's in the ballpark. I'm loving the mini games and side quests. Similar to the batman games when you choose to solve a mystery or crime through environmental investigation. Combat is solid. Guards no longer wait around for you to attack and instead gang up on you and can kill you pretty quickly. Traversing the world is IMO the best it's evr been.

If you like these kinds of games, I highly recommend it. It's nowhere near as bad as 3 or Revelations. Don't listen to the reviews. They've all been trashing the game, and I'm glad I ignored them this time around and just played it for myself.

Edit: forgot to add my favorite thing about the game. You can choose a play style via which equipment you buy. You can be ranged, melee, health, or stealth focused. I'm choosing stealth and playing the game like those early splinter cell games. As you progress with whatever focus you choose, you unlock new abilities based on your specific discipline. It's pretty neat.

@themanwithnoplan: as long as puttig in cash isnt totally necessary I don't see an issue with this. Obviously $99 dollars is an obscene amount of money to put into a game to get items but hey if you got no time and a lot of money why should they deny them of that?

I remeber talking to a friend who spent somewhere around 50 bucks in NBA 2k14 on coins to improve his player. That sounds totally crazy to me but he said he just wanted it right away. Again, I would never ever spend extra money on something like that but some people will as a time saver so hey let them have that. As long as it doesn't cripple the material progression of the game Im cool with it.

I despise ubisoft a push to have people buy a season pass before the game is even released. It's really messed up, asking people to put so much faith in their games to buy future content before anyone has even played the intro to the main game, or even seen a splash screen

That's where I stand of the matter as well. There's a fine balance nowadays when it comes to micro transactions. Some do it better than others, but as long as the core game doesn't hinge on said implementation I've got no problems with it existing.

I decided to get the Assassin's Creed Xbox One bundle over the weekend. I have a PS4 and was planning on skipping Unity, since I've just never liked the AC games. 2 was okay, but by the end I just didn't want to play it anymore and that stuck. I tried playing Black Flag when I brought the XBone home, since it came with that as well, but just couldn't seem to get into it.

I have been loving Sunset Overdrive and am about to sit down and decide whether to keep playing that or give Unity a go before bedtime. I wish I hadn't read any reviews... I really wanted to go into this one without a chip on my shoulder but I think it's just there now. I'm already wishing I would have bought the Sunset bundle and saved $60, except I didn't want a white console. I'll try to clear my head and give Unity a go tonight. I really like that there seem to be some customization options in this one... I really WANT to like Assassin's Creed. But I don't. :\

I can't tell you fellas how sad I am that you cannot fight with the hidden blade(s?). And you still can't fucking unequipt your gun after you purchase it. C'mon ubi people have been asking to have empty weapon slots for YEARS. Someone will probably once again find a glitch to remove weapons

I bought it proactively before I left for work today as I like to give games the full day to download so I don't have to wait. It's 27% downloaded 10 hours after I started it. Goddamn that's horrid. This is why games shouldn't be 40 gigs.

Can I still play it or is it going to show me a splash screen?

I am so done with Assassin's Creed at this point and judging by a lot of the reviews, I think this seals the deal. I unfortunately skipped ACIV, which apparently was great. But yeah I am so done.

I just don't think annual series purchases are worth it. There's only so much you can "innovate"

I've been playing it on Xbox One for a few hours and at the beginning it was chugging a bit but now its fine. I've yet to see flying npcs or other glitches. I'm not saying the issue don't exist, but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

I've played about 13 - 14 hour so far on PS4. The game seems okay to me, not good, but not terrible either; reminds of Arkham Origins from last year, in that it needed a couple more months to fix the glitches and performance issues, but even with all that it would be a lesser game in its series.

I've run into a couple bugs like: frame rate dropping in crowded areas or during cut scenes, lip syncing being way off in one cut scene, map not loading in basement with a chest in it (only saw white mist and blackness that the npcs were standing in; I was able to grab the chest and get out, but sure looked funny). All of this hasn't been game breaking though it, sucks that they couldn't ship a polished product.

The actual game feel off and sleazy. I don't like there being website and companion app only chests in the game; wasn't Black Flag's companion app game Kenway's Fleet? You could play that from inside the full game, why won't Unity let me do that?

I haven't touched the microtransactions and honestly I don't think you need them, once I upgraded the cafe I'm getting 5000 plus francs or whatever the regular in-game currency is every 20 minutes. I've upgraded most my gear to the equipment pieces that cost around 5000 each and now I can two shot enemies, so it isn't too bad. Free running is better, but not by much and the biggest problem is that it isn't fun or enjoyable to traverse the city. Second Son, Mordor, Sunset Overdrive all felt fun just running around the open world, not so in Unity.

Likewise the changes to combat don't make the game harder, than other ACs, but the encounters don't feel as fun now and I don't feel like a badass now. I don't know if this changes, but now I only have two berserk arrows, and using those was one of my favorite techniques in Black Flag where you could get like a dozen or more of them to carry.

I don't like the upgrade system where you only get skill points by completing main story missions, I like the hunting system from Black Flag or Far Cry 3. I like clearing out different map sections one by one doing everything, but without at least lockpicking 2, I can't do that. So think I'm going to have to plow through the main story line till get near the end, but by then I might want to just push through and complete the game and not do too much more side content (got Dragon Age and Far Cry 4 waiting). I have the same feeling Brad does about finding it hard to go back to open world games to do side-content once you beat the game; I believe they talked about this on last week's Bombcast.

I'm going to try and get as much of the game done by Sunday and then I'm moving onto Dragon Age.
