Ash Lake is a hidden area in Dark Souls, accessed through the Great Hollow located in Blighttown. In terms of relative geography, it is the lowest player-accessible location in Lordran. However, Ash Lake also appears to defy conventional spatial relationships with the remainder of the game world. Although players must descend deep beneath the surface of Lordran by way of the Great Hollow to reach Ash Lake, the lake itself exists as a seemingly-infinite expanse of water and enormous Archtrees. Visibility is also high, despite the lack of an obvious light source, and the area has no apparent ceiling typical of an underground cavern. This suggests that Ash Lake may in fact be an alternate dimension or plane of reality which is linked to the world of Lordran through the Archtrees, similar to the reality-defying nature of the Kiln of the First Flame beneath Firelink Shrine.
Sieglinde and the corpse of Siegmeyer of Catarina can eventually be located near the first of Ash Lake's two bonfires after completing their respective side quests. A Hydra also appears here in the shallows near the passage leading back into the Great Hollow. After crossing the narrow sandbar comprising the length of the area, a large Everlasting Dragon can be found nesting next to the second bonfire inside a separate Archtree.
