7. Super Mario Bros Wonder

This is my favorite side scrolling Mario game since Super Mario World! It seems like so much love and care went into every animation…and the fact that every single Wonder Seed I collected had a different gimmick to it was amazing. An absolute joy to play!

6. Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy 7 is one of my favorite games of all time. A big reason for that is the characters. FF16 managed to make me care about these characters the same way! The more “mature” approach to Final Fantasy was a gamble, and I think it absolutely paid off! Amazing entry in the FF franchise!

1. Lies of P

So I love the “Souls” series. One of my fav genres of all time. And if you would have told me From Software made this game, I wouldn’t have batted an eye. This studio created the best non From Software “Souls game” of all time in my opinion! The gameplay is smooth, sharp, and exciting. The story is polished and intriguing. The original ideas are amazing and continue to push this genre into cool new directions. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this game, and for me, it’s my Game of the Year for 2023!
