Overview
Aaron Burr was the third Vice President of the United States of America, and was in office from 1801 to 1805. He had previously served as a senator representing the state of New York. While in office as Vice President, Burr's rivalry with former Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton escalated, and the two engaged in a duel in 1804. Burr fatally shot Hamilton, but was not himself injured. Though he served the remainder of his term as Vice President, the fallout from the duel ended Burr's political career.
