New Vegas and Fallout 2 are the greats in the series. The Bethesda games are missing the je nais se quoi of the Black Isle/Obsidian entries.

Or I guess it's not mysterious: just missing really great writing, player choice, and humor.

However, I'm not a fan of these huge resolutions for classic game makeovers, I have to say. Everything looks too far away, like a map screen, and some fixed elements/windows become so tiny on screen. Not particularly easy on the eyes.

Wish he'd play with the original resolution which is fine because the pixel art is gorgeous.

He realizes that a little later in the stream and switches to a resolution closer to the original.

I can’t really be objective about it because Fallout 1 and 2 were one of those games of my teen years that I played through dozens of times and loved to death...but I’m pretty sure I’m objectively right in that all those Bethesda made Fallouts are dogshit. Funny enough I remember a lot of people would kind of mock Fallout 3 before it came out and say it looked like Oblivion with guns - and it totally was!

I never played the first two either, but I have a feeling this is going to be good, honestly I saw one comment that explains the 'authentic' feel of this concept to execution with this, I never knew Bethesda didn't develop these. nice pick for a stream mr ben

I hope you stick with it, the early going in these games is always the roughest part. And a guest would be nice. Otherwise really enjoyed this video though. Love seeing GB dig into complex and meaty games and hopefully do full playthroughs.

this is one of my favourite games, but the first time i played it i didn't realize that reading the manual is a must so i kept dying to rats lol

Hmm. I wonder if fans of Bethesda Fallouts should just play STALKER. It's much closer to the wasteland survival experience those newer games offer, compared to the OG.

Ah man I love this, Ben you're doing great! This game is fairly inscrutible and the fact you've already made good progress is awesome.

So happy to see you're playing this, Ben! I personally prefer FO1 but FO2, if you can avoid/fix the horrendous technical problems, is such a wild, sprawling game. Since you like FNV you'll at least find something to enjoy in 2! Really hope you'll play through all of it.

I had a similar math class in college. As a film major, I was only required to take one math class for my degree. It was called "Survey of Math." Never did the homework. Never studied for tests. It was all basic stuff I'd learned 3-4 years prior. And yes, I know I sound like Dan talking about this.

Yesss oh my god this is the most excited I've been for a feature. I fucking love this game. I never watch content live but I might try and tune in for this one.

I've have heard some noise about the earlier Fallout games, and actually have Fallout 2. I'm pretty inspired to make a better effort of getting it to run better than my brief effort a few years back.

The speedrun marathon for this game and Fallout 2 during the last AGDQ was amazing and Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4 were just crazy and complicated.

Great name change and even happier to see it gets an Ep 01 designation. This is the most important game for me along with the original. Basically shaped my entire perspective on video games.

Fallout 2 music is like some weird ASMR to me. The hours and hours and hours I spent playing this game back in the day when I was a student have lovingly burnt into my head and trigger many great emotions, the sound fx have a similar effect.

Good luck Ben, you're hopefully gonna enjoy this game as it is a doozey. One of the best by absolute far.

@thiefsie: Oh yeah, those ambient weird eerie sounds of the wastes are so burned into my lizard brain after many hours playing these games.

I'd say roughly 50% of that time was just trying to keep Dogmeat alive while fighting Super-Mutants, ha ha.
