E3 2018: The Resident Evil 2 Remake Rumors Are True (Finally)

Man, this is totally gonna be a RE4-like isn't it, based on that shot from behind Leon's back. That kinda lowers a LOT of my excitement for this game. It looks fucking incredible visually but I really wanted REmake 2, not an entirely different gameplay style. I guess we can't say for sure yet, but I'm definitely a bit worried.

@wemibelle: Maybe Capcom will put in the option for fixed cameras and tank controls?? That would be a cool best of both worlds scenario. I understand your concern with Over the shoulder shooting though, what's to stop me from one shotting every zombie I see in their dumb face? They aren't exactly nimble.

On that note though, it didn't make sense in the classic Resident Evil's that the characters never figured out that shot to the head=insta-kill to zombies and instead opted to dump 7+ rounds center mass until the zombie slumped over and died. REmake made it undesirable to kill zombies at all with the Crimson Head mechanic, so maybe they will make that happen again?

Maybe at a higher frequency, like zombies turn into crimson heads much faster then REmake

It wasn't really a rumor, they announced they were doing it years ago with a t-shirt that says "we do it".

@wemibelle: The relyonhorror "leak" rumored that it would have old school controls and re4 controls, and that it would balance the experience depending on which one you use.

@wemibelle: Yeah, there's definitely a part of me that wants them to go full REmake, with tank controls and camera angles even if I know that the realities of "business" say otherwise. I still hope they can at least capture the spirit of those older games. RE 7 felt like a step in the right direction, so I'm not writing this off.

There's a different version of the trailer up on YT and has clearer third-person shots that look like real gameplay.

However, there's also a press release out and it mentions that it features the classic gameplay too. Not really sure what that means, but I'm hopeful it's what I want.

I don't remember much of this game are the cutscenes the same or is this like a reboot or will we select same story and gameplay

@steveurkel: I would expect some small changes here and there, but some of the beats from the original (such as Leon talking to the black cop) are pretty similar in this trailer.

Man... so many mixed feelings right now, I don't know what to make of this. I think the main thing that's bothering me is how off the characters look, I get that they're going for a more realistic, RE7-like approach but it's kind of a bummer since Darkside Chronicles already remade them perfectly.

Upsetting that a rail shooter is more accurate to the game I love than the fully fledged remake, but Capcom sure loves giving their characters weird makeovers.

Yeah, it's weird how they manage to get their own characters wrong so often. At least Leon isn't the Incredible Hulk I guess? And maybe somebody will mod the PC version to put other models in.

@fawkes: Thank you!! Why are so many people reporting this as a surprise announcement when Capcom announced ages ago they were making this!

I love RE2, but that's also why I've played through numerous versions of it numerous times already. So as always I'm just gonna say: Do something new Capcom!

@fawkes: I'm starting to come around on the more realistic take as it sinks in, RE7 was clearly a new era for the series so I can understand not wanting to go back to the 'cartoonier' portrayals that defined the series up until RE6 or so, Capcom seems to want to wash their hands of that and I don't really blame them since it got a bit shit after a while. I will miss the quirky RE of old, although I wasn't on board with RE7, stepping back into Raccoon City is too good to resist.

Another note, watching Leon creeping down those dark hallways with a torch in hand reminds me so much of the old Hook Man demo. There's also an Elza Walker skin for Claire, and this seemingly darker take on the police station brings RE 1.5 to mind. As one of the many fans who longed for those early builds, it feels like we're finally getting a small piece of that which is exciting.

I love RE2 and it's tank controls. I hope they keep them.
