HD Skryim Looks no better than Skyrim with a mediocre ENB. Good for console only players though I guess.

I'm very excited for the Skyrim remaster. It won't be a revolutionary change to gaming as a whole or what-have-you, but I'm glad that console gamers will finally be able to join in on the modding fun. Also, you know, the engine overhaul is bringing in features that mods simply could never do on the original Skyrim's version of Creation including PBR, rain occlusion, and volumetric lighting. The fact that PC players get it for free (provided that they own the DLC) is a bonus.

OK, on the one hand, he would not be a dick to point out that a new release is not actually better than an old release and you do not need to buy it. So I don't think he deserved to be called out for elitism there. On the other hand, I played through all of Skyrim with texture and lighting mods on the PC, and to me the HD version looks like a considerable upgrade, albeit maybe not in ways that'd make me inclined to play it again without more content.

@soiledsanchez: Calling as I see it friend, if simple statements about video games not looking that impressive gets your goat so much then that's your problem not mine.

Besides I said it's good for the console users.

The engine upgrades are gonna be huge for PC modding. DX11 brings tons of things that were never possible with DX9, not to mention 64 bit.

I've played Skyrim on PC with mods, and I'll probably play it again on consoles with this release. What stereotype do I fall under?

I guess I'm weird and in the minority here but I like to get excited about video games, not just point out their flaws and look for reasons to hate them as soon as they're announced.

@nasher27: Hey man you can be excited all you want. I never said you can't. To me the announcement was lackluster because I played a better looking Skyrim 2 years ago.

That's fine, there's no need to take the fact that I find Bethesda's HD remake unimpressive as a personal attack or an elitist statement. I just expect better quality from a multi-million dollar company than I do from a singular Russian dude.

@ivdamke: eh, you're right, just maybe the tone... Some PC people are so ridiculously anti console that some console players get riled pretty easy. You're right though.

The mods thing for consoles is huge, and I think it's clear this release is driven by and meant to serve consoles way more than PC. It's always been HD. And PC has had mods of course, some of which bump the graphics to incredible levels.

A big bump in visuals will definitely have me checking this out, and I'd really like to try some of the more entertaining mods (I.e. That change the gameplay and world, not just graphics tweaking).

Of course, console players like me have always pined a bit seeing videos of the PC version in action. The release is clearly meant mostly for us, so it can be annoying to see someone who has had it good all along rain on our parade. At the same time though, everyone could just chill, because you didn't say anything wrong and were pretty reasonable about it (haha, minus the "I guess part". It is DEFINITELY good for us!).

I play PC games also of course, but I'd never consider myself a proper "PC gamer", because I just don't have the $$ to spend on a system that could really outshine consoles in the first place. I mostly just play less demanding indies, etc, on my PC (ahem, haha actually a MacBook Air running boot camp Windows, so that should tell you how much gaming performance I get).

Anyway... I'm bored so sorry for the long winded random BS. It's a cool announcement I think, so let's all just keep a positive spirit. E3 is supposed to be a fun week for us all, so let's just enjoy it!

Giant Bomb would be a much better site without these game trailers that can be seen in a billion places already.

@anthony: If only there was a site called gametrailers dot com or something. That seems like a useful destination for such dissemination of CG eyeblastery.

@anthony: @brackynews: Yep, RIP GT. Actually, I wanted to rewatch some of the trailers from the EA press conference, and GB was the first site to come to mind. I think the videos are listed and presented really nice and clean here.

Worth mentioning; Bethesda have said that if you own either the original game + DLC or the Legendary Edition of Skyrim on PC, you'll automatically get the Special Edition for free. That's a really nice, good decision.

What I'm getting out of this is that the wait for Elder Scrolls VI is going to be longer than we're used to. As long as they learn from the mistakes they made with Fallout 4, I'm fine with that. Better right than right now.

I also get what they're doing with the mods, as they're a large part of the draw of the series and consoles make up a bulk of sales, but I can't help but feel this will continue to divide the modding community. Many will be requested to update their mods for the new version, and if they don't port them over to the console versions some turd will do it and claim credit for it, then blame the original mod maker if/when it fails. I really hope Bethesda keeps up their promise to look into those issues.

That sounds negative, but overall I think it's good they put out the new version. It'll be better in the long run, even if it's going to be a bummer to a certain segment of players and modders.

Well, it's nice to confirm that fallout is no longer a franchise that appeals or tries to appeal to me I guess. Potential Obsidian spin-offs excepted, I guess

Yeah, Skyrim looked better on my GTX 770 (not a high-end or new card by any means) system. But if you're a console-only gamer for whatever reason that does look nice. It's just not all that exciting for Bethesda's large PC community.
