Hey guys, there's a new piece of DLC for Total War Warhammer which is called "Blood for the Blood God". http://store.steampowered.com/app/404011/

As far as I can tell, this is a 3 dollar piece of DLC that just adds some new graphical effects. I normally do not care about weird DLC in games, but this one seems like it's on a horse armor level of terrible.

Am I wrong? Is this pretty normal now and I just haven't been paying attention? Seeing this DLC is just concerning to me because it just seems that they're improving their graphics.

Creative Assembly has done this for the last few Total War games (starting with Shogun 2). Its just a cheap cosmetic upgrade in case you like painting the scenery.

@artisanbreads: Oh wow I had no idea! Like I said, I normally don't care about weird DLC stuff. But this seems worse if they're doing it for every game because that means they know the game looks better this way and are holding it back to sell at a later date. Which is a garbage thing to do.

They have to charge for the dlc to keep a 15ish rating in some territories, there's a quote here. I'm no fan of Ca's dlc habits, but I kinda get why they've been doing this for the last few games.

@anduran: If it was for rating reasons why charge 3 bucks for it?

Their model for Total War DLC has been all the way rotten for a long time now so I'm not surprised.

They've done this before unfortunately. I don't understand how people pay for this stuff.

@hayt: My understanding is that if it was a free update, or a part of the base game, it would've affected the ratings in some places. At least on Steam, dlc and their base game can have different ratings.

I don't really have a reason beside "profit" for why it's 3 dollars and not just a symbolic 1 cent.

@hayt: Because they like money and people will buy it. I'd do the same in their position. Now if people stopped buying shitty DLC then maybe something will change. But given that there is another thread active at the moment where people are talking about paying 60 quid for an upgraded version of AssCreed2 II I don't think people are going to stop buying pointless shit any time soon.

As others have said, the justification given was to keep the rating of the base game down to appeal to a wider audience. I don't really care about that as buying DLC, or games in general, is a subjective experience where each person makes the call if it is worth the money. I almost never buy DLC and I bought this one because I love the base game and I felt it added quite a bit for $3. It is more than just blood textures, there are a multitude of dismemberment animations (giants biting off heads, decapitations, etc) that give it value to me.

Dude, it's three bucks and came alongside a free update that actually added a new unit

I have zero issues with this if they continue to offer good free content (blood knights) alongside the cheap paid stuff (blood fx)

I know it's tough to cut Creative Assembly any slack after Rome 2, but they finally seem to be on track again. I got it to support their great game more than anything else, I spend 90% of the battles too zoomed out to actually see the blood, but it's neat in replays at least

As everyone here as said, they have literally followed the exact same pattern for 4 games now. And I'm getting a pretty fed up of the same controversy each time. I mean, sure I WISH it was free and included at launch. But they have pretty logical reasons why that is not the case. I for one am pretty happy that they release it at all. They are good effects that they spent time on and it sounds like they would save themselves a headache but just not doing anything. And it's 3 bucks. I mean, I know money means different things to different people, but still. It's a large coffee at starbucks.

(Also for those who don't know, if they release it as free then it is a patch, not a separate piece of "higher rated" content. You spend money on it to keep it separate from the core game.)

Sorry if I come off as aggressive I'm just tired of the same song and dance 4 TIMES NOW
