Are you a Tetris aficionado? What do you consider to be the best version? Tetris for the Game Boy? The New Tetris on the N64? Is Tetris Effect really that good or is it just the hype of a new game?

Tetris Effect. Its Tetris, its fast and good and Tetris, except its amazingly beautiful also. No multiplayer is the one knock against it, but Tetris has always been my solo zone game.

Puyo Puyo Tetris, mostly just for being good and on a platform i own, Tetris games are always weirdly platform specific/exclusive.

The Gameboy version of course, not even a contest really.

Puyo Puyo Tetris has to be the best Tetris game hands down. The Tetris is solid entry in the Sega Tetris line and of course Puyo Puyo is an all time classic puzzle game in it's own right. Add the mash-up modes and multiplayer and it all adds up to an amazing game. Though I will say I played tons of GB Tetris and I am loving the Tetris Effect but I know I will be playing Puyo Tetris for years to come, Everytime my sister is in town.

Hot take: Game Boy Tetris is pretty weak. I love playing it, but it has a lot of issues: from glitches to poor randomisation to long unskippable cutscenes.

Personally, I have some nice nostalgia pangs for the second DOS version:

Easily, Tetris DS for me. I've played a LOT of Tetris over the years, but I sunk the most hours into the DS version by far. That one introduced me to T-spins and holding blocks, which I thought were awesome. And there were some really interesting modes to play.

I tried Puyo Puyo Tetris recently and it really just made me want to pick up Tetris DS again...

Tetris DS. Surprised to see not much support for it here. I haven't yet played Tetris Effect though.

Tetris DS, no question. Got my ass whooped by plenty of Japanese players online, playing against them made me better at Tetris.

The Game Boy version would be my nostalgic answer, Puyo Puyo would be my answer as far as playing with others and general creativity, and Tetris Effect would be what I would consider the most polished.

Battle Tetris Gaiden is the best looking one that I've never played but wish that I had and hope that I someday will.

The Game Boy version is probably the correct answer, but The New Tetris is my answer. The super slow pace of their Marathon mode is just so relaxing.

    Gameboy Tetris.

I haven’t played the new one, but if it doesn’t have copious Type-A (Korobeiniki) and Type-B, they messed-up.

@craftxiii: If you own the game, you should be able to redownload it no problem even if it got delisted. Just need a functioning PS3.

Gameboy version. It is Tetris in it's most basic form, at it's most purest state.

Edit: Second best is Puyo Puyo Tetris, Where Dog Doctor and Fish are intertwined in eternal struggle.

It's absolutely Tetris DS. There are other very good versions, but Tetris DS was a great overall package and was on a handheld.

It used to be Tetris on the NES until I discovered Tetris Worlds. I can play hours of it on the original Xbox and not realize how much time has passed.

1993tris. It had guns, lighters, and fish.

Seriously though, Puyo Puyo Tetris is REALLY good, and while I only played the Tetris Effect demo, that thing is amazing (especially in VR).

We need a Ranking of Tetris.

My game of choice changes like every other day, depending on what I want to get out of playing Tetris at any given moment. There's so many and they all do things just different enough that I can't pick one as a favorite.

Right now, because I'm not feeling the extra-lenient guideline gameplay, I would tell you Tetris The Grand Mater or Tetris The Absolute. The speed is really addicting and gets you dialed in in it's special TGM way, and I think Arika's rotation and randomizer systems strike a great balance between old and new Tetris games.
